To think that not much is shocking any more? Not much is really controversial?

Just thinking about how not THAT long ago, nudity on stage was a real and on television too....people could make political statements and really shock...they could wear something highly unusual and be the centre of attention.

Now we're all like "Yeah yea...seen it all before."

Is there anything that would shock these days? Apart from violence? I wasn't even shocked in the 90s when I watched Shopping & Fucking the stage play...which features violent male sex....AIBU to think we've fucking done everything now?

But I suppose the difference is that horrors like child abuse and FGM and wide-scale famine aren't things which people used to know about and not be bothered about, are they? They weren't widely reported. There hasn't been a change of attitude - just information more widely made available. I don't think many of us realised just how horrific the situation in Ethiopia was in the 80s until Michael Buerk's famous "biblical famine" report on the BBC News, for example. People would have been shocked before had they known. (Which is also why some older people think crime is a lot worse than it used to be in the 1950s - they just hear about it more, because there are more ways to do so.)

Well if it had been a nice lab I could have understood but a staffie, Really!!!!

I was shocked at some of the unusual sexual practices that some people go in for. I'll never be able to undo seeing the categories on a certain sex shop nor forget watching a Louis Therroux I'm more open minded than most but clearly not as tolerant and accepting as I thought.

Listen to some of the old comedy shows on Radio 4 Extra from the 50's 60's and 70's. I guarantee that one of the characters will say something that will genuinely shock you.
