To talk to my neighbours about their cat...

Smellyanne · 12/02/2014 15:10

which has started pooing in our garden and has today left a dead mouse on the doorstep ?
Not sure what I expect them to do about it to be honest but I have young children and don't want to have to clean up someone elses cat poo or dead creatures everytime we go outside..

Katinkia · 12/02/2014 15:12

We'll maybe they could give the cat a good talking to....

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 12/02/2014 15:12

Gawd, there's only just been a thread on cat poo..........I haven't the energy to comment on another one!

However, did you see the criminal in question crap in your garden and leave you the mouse.....in his favour he thinks he is bringing you a gift, maybe to apologise for crapping in your garden!

NeoFaust · 12/02/2014 15:14

Buy a water pistol and nail the devil every time you spot it in the garden. A nerf super soaker is best.

Neighbours used to do the same to our cat. It's harmless, but very discouraging for the feline in question and good practice for the zombie plague.

CumberCookie · 12/02/2014 15:19

I like NeoFaust suggestion, and I'm a cat owner. Talking to your neighbour about it wont help, it's not like the cat will listen to them!

KellyElly · 12/02/2014 15:50

Somehow I don't think their cat will give a shit when they explain it's actions to it later Grin

SnookyPooky · 12/02/2014 15:57

Yay cat shit bingo. I'll get me dabber.....

TheDoctorsNewKidneys · 12/02/2014 15:59

Ooh, another cat poo in my garden thread.

Beamur · 12/02/2014 16:01

Sweet that it's brought you a mouse, yukky though it might seem it is a present for you.
This cat wants to be your friend.
However, poo is not so nice! The water pistol is a good idea, kitty won't like it but it will do no harm.

kelper · 12/02/2014 16:02

Don't be like my neighbour who had a humane trap, and has been trapping and -possibly drowning-- neighbourhood cats, including two of men, and only was caught because my third cat miaowed so loud we found her :(
Water pistols are a much nicer idea

kelper · 12/02/2014 16:03

Not men, mine!

NinjaBunny · 12/02/2014 16:04

Apparently they're not bringing you a gift.

It's because they think you're a crap hunter and don't want you to starve.

So more of a food parcel than a present.

:)

No advice on the poo though.

bodygoingsouth · 12/02/2014 16:08

op it's a cat. a fucking cat. what do you want the neighbours to do? sit it on the naughty step?

it's a mouse on your step! ffs. just sweep it off. cat poo! are you and dcs plating in the garden at the moment and if you are in Britain it will be washed away in seconds.

you have young children who may piss off your neighbours with noise in the summer. get a grip!

bodygoingsouth · 12/02/2014 16:09

never ever seen cat poo btw. dog yes, fox yes badger yes but cat no.

GTA5MASTER · 12/02/2014 16:11

Be thankful it didn't bring a live mouse in to your house and set it free!! Mine do this all the time.
Mine also don't poop in anyone's garden because I have a litter tray by the back door and they prefer to use that (lazy buggers).
So win win for the neighbours ;-)

KellyElly · 12/02/2014 16:13

My cat pissed all over my bathroom yesterday and then emptied the rest on the bedroom carpet. Live safe in the knowledge that it's probably doing much worse in its own house Grin

higgle · 12/02/2014 16:17

Our neighbours all have cats and we have a dog. I wouldn't dare ask but when I'm removing cat poo from the pots outside my front door where the cats have also dug up the bulbs and destroyed the plants I really can see no reason why the owners shouldn't be obliged to clear up after the cats and make good the damage they have caused.

Smellyanne · 12/02/2014 16:31

Yes, thats what I was thinking , that I might ask them to clean it up . Although they are nice and we get on fine , I'm pretty sure they would have something to say if the situation were reversed.

If I had neighbours close enough and my cats were going to their garden to shit I would buy them a high pressure hose, chemicals to put them off and failing that, I guess I would try to keep them in until every day they had done their poo inside. I have 6 currently who rarely leave the garden and if they did, they don't go far. How do I know? Just mell the breath of my 11 dogs.

Theodorous · 12/02/2014 16:37

Smell

BroomstickRider · 12/02/2014 16:37

Get your own cat to chase it out of the garden Smile

WooWooOwl · 12/02/2014 16:38

Yanbu. There is no reason why the owners couldn't clear up the mess their pet makes and they shock also pay for deterrents for you to use if they aren't prepared to keep their cat indoors.

bodygoingsouth · 12/02/2014 16:43

see I wonder where you all live? I live in a big village 10 mikes from a huge city.

in our garden we get foxes, badgers and the occasional dog. these all poo in our garden in a regular basis.

the rain usually washes it away but as we are all outdoors people and my children walked everywhere we weren't afraid of getting a but dirty or the odd poo.

I can't understand how your gardens are so prim that you actually see cat poo.

KellyElly · 12/02/2014 16:54

Yes, thats what I was thinking , that I might ask them to clean it up . But unless you were prepared to do shitwatch surveillance how could you prove it was their cat every time ;)

lucycoco · 12/02/2014 16:59

I'd encourage you to be more tolerant. Cats roam, it's just the way it is.

I have neighbours with children who play noisily. This isn't exactly music to my ears, but of course I tolerate it because: children can be noisy, it's just the way it is.

If we were all only prepared to tolerate from others exactly what they tolerate from us, we'd be in a lot of trouble!

weirdthing · 12/02/2014 17:03

Good luck op. Our neighbours have 5 cats and a tiny garden. Guess where they all shit? We tried the talk (got nowhere) started spraying the cats with a hose (which totally works) but then lead to our neighbours doing a 'watch' on us from their windows, screaming abuse/threats and racist language (including at our 4 and 8 yr olds) which developed into me having to call the police twice (who did bugger all - she denied all of it and we had no proof). We are now planning on moving house...
As I say, good luck :)
