About fridge hygiene?

DH unpacked the shopping tonight as I was in the middle of making dinner when it arrived. Afterwards I had to totally rearrange the fridge so that the raw meat was on the bottom shelf with the cooked meat on the shelf above and all the cheese together and jars together etc. I also had to remove the soy sauce from baking cupboard and put it where it belongs with the oils/condiments but that's beside the point. He never covers up open packets of bacon or ham etc with cling film either, just leaves them open in the fridge.

I don't know whether it was my mum or Brownies/Guides/Home Ec at school that drummed into me how you should and should not arrange a fridge but when I raise it DH looks at me like I'm mad and just says yes ok to humour me but clearly thinks I'm making it all up. I'm not am I? It is normal to organise your fridge like that isn't it?Blush

Being a veggie family means we don't have to fret as much about this. However, if we ate meat we'd be following your fridge rules Smile

I shove stuff in wherever too and hardly cover stuff like ham in clingfilm.

I haven't killed anyone. Yet.

YANBU but instead of banning your DH from putting the fridge shopping away write a list of 'fridge basic hygiene' instructions like what you've outlined in your post eg raw meat on bottom, cooked meat covered and above, laminate it, then stick it to his head to the fridge.

So next time he can do the job properly.

It's also because the fridge is colder at the bottom, so meat goes there. But most people probably have their fridge on such a cold setting that it probably doesn't matter nowadays.
