"Banning the promotion of homosexuality" is very much different from practising or acknowledging one's homosexuality being an imprisonable offence. In some countries, it is a capital offence.

Albeit the latter is much more frightening than encouraging harassment of homosexuals.

Have you lived in other countries whereby both the latter are the norm?

Section 28 banned the idea that homosexuality was 'normal', it did not, however, re-criminalise homosexuality. Nor did it encourage violence against homosexuality. Saddened that you can't appreciate that our democratic society can't readily accept mistakes and try to redress them.

yanbu.

theres over 80 countries in the world where homosexuality is illegal and in many cases punishable by death.
its illegal in 13 us states.

im a bit bemused why the world is acting like russia is the only one with homophobic attacks
