No YANBU. I do it too. I have 2 teenagers with hollow legs who eat and then eat more then eat more again. Drives me nuts.

SPsMrLoverManSHABBA · 10/02/2014 09:55

Pack lunch is acceptable, welcome to the pack lunch club Grin

I hide chocolate from my son

Stinklebell · 10/02/2014 09:56

Yep, I hide stuff too.

I'm beyond fed up with having to run to the shop at 7:30am as they've eaten all the bread/cakes/etc.

diddl · 10/02/2014 09:58

Well if it's allocated for packed lunches & they know it, when it's gone, they can't have it for the intended purpose!

So just sarnies/friut for them!

Fecklessdizzy · 10/02/2014 09:59

Me too! Not U at all! Nothing worse than trying to slap DS2's luch together and finding DP's scoffed all the tasty bits!

AlpacaLypse · 10/02/2014 10:00

DP hasn't done it since I made him go out and buy bread and ham at 7.30am as he'd necked the children's lunch box stuff with an attack of The Munchies after a Sunday night pub quiz.

And dtds have never dared.

I do a fine line in mahoosive strops and they're all far too scared!

Nocomet · 10/02/2014 10:00

I hide biscuits (DD2 is silly with them)

Topseyt · 10/02/2014 11:00

I need a place like that. Must get thinking cap polished and on.

t3rr3gl35 · 10/02/2014 11:07

Reminds me of my mum who had to hide things from my brother. Take heed....it is very, very important to remember where things are hidden.

My mum once hid a punnet of raspberries in the spin drier. And forgot. Until she spun a batch of towels. Grin

BirthdayMuppet · 10/02/2014 11:09

I wouldn't hide it, but I'd make damn sure they knew the consequences of their actions - eating it all at once means no more of it until the next shop, so they're only hurting themselves. I'd also make sure they all knew how disappointed in them I was. I can't abide sneakiness or stealing, and grown ups stealing food is pathetic.

WorraLiberty · 10/02/2014 11:10

No I don't hide anything

The kids have to ask for snacks and my DH wouldn't eat anything that's for the their packed lunches.

teenagetantrums · 10/02/2014 11:13

I hide things for me, the teenagers know that when the multi pack of crisps is gone or the biscuits that's it for another week little do the know i have a few hidden for me. Im sure my teenagers are worse than toddlers yesterday my 17yr old DD was having a strop as there were no red hula hoops left, her brother had eaten them all, and they are her favorite, you would think it was the end of her world.

pasdechat · 10/02/2014 11:14

I wouldn't hide. Tell them which things are reserved for the packed lunches and are under no circumstances allowed to be eaten. Remind them which items may be eaten as snacks.

TeacupDrama · 10/02/2014 11:15

what do you do if one child eats all the crisps say does the other child have to go without in their lunch box until next shop?

RevoltInParadise · 10/02/2014 11:22

I use visual supports for my ADHD son. Things like a big Red Cross on a drawer if he isn't allowed to go in there. The other children use them too. In fact I told my dd off the other day for getting into things she shouldn't and she retorted that there wasn't a sign on it!

My point being, they are very useful for husbands as well. I meal plan and there is a drawer in the freezer with a Red Cross on it. Dh does not use stuff in that drawer if he is cooking. I allocated a shelf to packed lunch things and put a cross on it. Everyone knows not to touch that stuff. Well, if nothing else it makes them think and then at least ask before they gobble it all down!

teenagetantrums · 10/02/2014 11:23

To be honest mine are quite good when i say don't eat more than x amount of packets this week, these are for both of you. Mind you they are older teenagers now they may not have cared about their sibling when they were younger teens. When my Ds and his friends demolished all the crisps last weekend he gave his sister money to buy something nice on the way to college.

Babyroobs · 10/02/2014 12:43

I have taken to hiding all the packed lunch stuff from my 3 teenage ds's otherwise there would be nothing left.

poshfrock · 10/02/2014 12:51

I hide stuff too. Otherwise the 2 teenage boys would eat everything by Tuesday and there would be nothing left for either them or their 9 year old sister. I tried the "once it's gone it's gone" method but it seemed unfair that my youngest always ended up missing out. I have a carrier bag in the boot of my car and the snack cupboard gets refilled on a Wednesday.

Littleen · 10/02/2014 13:34

Haha, I hide stuff too, even treats for my other half so I can ration them (he tends to eat it all in one go) :) Have always had to hide chocolate etc. from my dad and sisters, so it doesn't phase me at all. If I want a treat, I have to hide it or it will disappear!
yanbu!

Scholes34 · 10/02/2014 13:35

I remember being on a coach tour on holiday where the tour guide pointed to the farmers' fields, surrounded by a cheap cabbage-like crop. Apparently, it was planted there for the rabbits to eat, so they wouldn't venture further into the field to eat the main, more valuable crops.

I adopt this approach with my three teenagers and am buying lots of white bread for toast and placing custard creams and Nice biscuits (not to be confused with nice biscuits) at the front so they don't venture further into the cupboard to seek out the chocolate. Is this the same as hiding things?

CouthyMow · 10/02/2014 13:38

I buy an individual multi pack for each DC. And individual biscuit packs. If they dared to steal one of their siblings packets, they wouldn't get bought any the following week.

I only had to do that once...

LucyLasticBand · 10/02/2014 16:28

well i have tried the, when its gone its gone approach, but it is unfair on those who are not pilfering.!
