Watching the women's snowboarding. We've just got a medal. Yes. I agree it's exciting, yes it's our first, but seriously?

All credit to Jenny Jones, but that distorted screaming from the commentators was horrible. They aren't there to be fans, they are there to give neutral, informed information. Where's Barry Davies when you need him? Hmm

homeanddry · 09/02/2014 11:22

It is fab for British sport and it was good to watch but they commentators sounded like a bunch of friends and family watching in the pub at home.

Platinumpennies · 09/02/2014 11:27

Loved it!

Glitterfeet · 09/02/2014 11:28

I didn't watch the whole thing but enjoyed the bits I overheard. Snowboarding is a relatively new sport and I'm sure will have a different audience form the women's curling.

sisterofmercy · 09/02/2014 11:30

Problem is we have a young discipline which doesn't have its own professional commentators. Even the SkiSunday guys admitted they had difficulty understanding the judges' marking at first. They use a lot of jargon but I am not sure they understand all the sports that well no matter how good they might be at performing and presenting SkiSunday. Presenting is different to commentating.

I do like their enthusiasm though.

ShatzePage · 09/02/2014 11:32

Oh go away bah humbugs!!n It was great and the banter was funny-it was a momentous occasion. If you are going to cats bum all over someone's lifetime achievment then please do it elsewhere.

Mckayz · 09/02/2014 11:33

I loved it, they showed emotion. Hardly a crime is it.

MarysDressSways · 09/02/2014 11:33

I thought they were great. You could sense their passion. Their sport being in the Olympics is a big deal. They were funny and informative and their excitement was infectious.

Fleta · 09/02/2014 11:34

Of course it is important - it is an unchartered discipline and TeamGB have done superbly to get a medal (and two male competitors in the final yesterday).

The kind of commentary may not fit for the purists but I would far, FAR rather listen to someone who is passionate and making sport fun.

You know that little black thing you point at the TV - you can use that to turn it off - HTH.

Littlegreyauditor · 09/02/2014 11:38

I really enjoyed it, and found the enthusiastic, bouncing puppy commentary totally charming. It reminded me of Jason Bateman in Dodgeball Smile

BoneyBackJefferson · 09/02/2014 11:53

OP, do you feel the same way about the competitors sticking their tongues out and generally pulling faces at the camera?

LtEveDallas · 09/02/2014 11:54

I thought it was ace. It's a young persons sport, so it needed some daft buggers to commentate. Ed is a brilliant boarder in his own right, and is an ambassador for the sport. Aimee was cheering for her mate.

It's more 'niche' and newer than the other winter sports, it has it's own language (that I had to explain to DH Grin) and attitude. It's not a stuffy sport that only the rich can take part in (as skiing always was). It crosses boundries and barriers. I'd hate to hear a 'normal' commentator.

Seff · 09/02/2014 13:19

All sports have "jargon". What about gymnastics, or figure skating? The only reason we know some of the jargon for those sports is because they've been around a long time. Snowboarding is much newer to the Olympics and the mainstream so of course it will take people time to catch up.

Remember super Saturday at the London Olympics? All those professional commentators and pundits getting excited over Britain winning some medals - how very dare they Hmm

Hotmad · 09/02/2014 13:29

I loved it, it's nice to see emotion in people instead of boring old sitting on the fence being PC. Hurrah for Britain's first medal EVER on the snow!Wink

Seff · 09/02/2014 13:32

Indeed. The fact that she's a woman is even better. It's great for women's sport.

SantanaLopez · 09/02/2014 13:34

I loved it. It made it so exciting Grin

Lazyjaney · 09/02/2014 14:03

IMO its great that commentators of both sexes were getting so excited about her. Jenny Jones' achievement was massive both for her and GB, and great for snowboarding, I hope it encourages loads of girls and boys in the UK to take it up.

There was similar jubilation for Taekwondo and Boxing in 2012 iirc.

onedev · 09/02/2014 14:05

What are the names of the commentators?

Hotmad · 09/02/2014 22:38

onedev commentators were Ed Leigh, Amy Fuller and Graham Bell

Onesleeptillwembley · 09/02/2014 22:45

I thought the tears were OTT until I realised that they probably know her well, so it's a personal thing.

wizzler · 09/02/2014 22:48

I thought it was fantastic... and it was such a surprise medal no wonder they went a bit OTT...

AbouttoCrack · 09/02/2014 23:00

Aaww. It was great. Their enthusiasm made it for me. I loved it. My ds2 now wants to know where the nearest dry slope is.

2rebecca · 09/02/2014 23:05

I really enjoyed it and at least they understood the sport and could make intelligent comments about it.

AppleYumYum · 09/02/2014 23:06

Great result and really enjoyed watching the slopestyle. I didn't mind the two male commentators, have no problem with people showing emotion or being impartial, but found Aimee Fuller's squealing very irritating and immature. As someone already mentioned above, talking over half of someone's run or celebrating someone falling is also very unprofessional, I don't think she should have been in that box. I have certainly utilised my mute button for every replay since... Shock

Iwannalaylikethisforever · 09/02/2014 23:12

Don't be such a misery guys.
You can always turn it off.
