And if you do, how long do you leave it to do so? And do you shred them?

I have piles of unwanted paper going back years. Can I shred the lot?

water bills are the only paper bills.
gas and electric are on line.

I keep and file bank statements, bills and utilities for 10 years and then they are shredded.

It's probably OTT, but it's not difficult to do and we have a huge filing cabinet.
