AIBU?

To think Yankee candles

Should all be equally smelly? I have brought several Yankee candles from Asda's recently for £9 and £12 each, they were the 'jar' type.. I got a variety of different scents but found that each one of them didn't really smell only if you were really close until your nose was almost singed by the wick My DIL bought me a Yankee candle from a garden centre which was a large pillar type in glass, it really has a strong scent...so AIBU to think that all the Yankee candles should be of the same quality and same smell strength irrespective of if you buy it in a supermarket or Yankee shop/garden centre (who have a bigger range?)...The supermarket ones really didn't smell at all no matter which scent I chose (4 in all).

They are not actually a rip off either. They last FOREVER!

They come in horrible tacky jars too.

SadFreak You sound like you should join the "Yankee Candle Fans" group on Facebook. (If you are on Facebook.) Some of the people on there have hundreds of them and people actually buy ex shop Yankee display cabinets to display their candles. Grin It's a nice friendly group though.

I couldn't live log enough to burn them all. That's what made me stop buying them... apart from Pink Dragonfruit the other day...

I also bought from Tesco - Bayliss & Harding Black Pepper and Ginseng. I don't know why I did that?

I use the yankee tarts in a plug in Yankee burner, the tarts last 10x longer than the regular candles and are normally only a pound!

My scents of choice - once I move away from the christmassy ones (in about june) are Midnight Jasmine, Fresh Cut Roses and Pink Lady Slipper. They are all lovely florals.

Midnight Jasmine is gorgeous!

The wax tarts are by far the best value and they don't ruin your decor by putting dirty paraffin into the atmosphere.

Can I prompt you to consider making your own with soy wax, stupidly easy - no dirt in the decor.

I want to get an electric burner. How do you know when to throw away the used melt? Is it when it doesn't smell any more?

Fluffy towels is my favourite. Have ordered True Rose and Tulips. Looking forward to trying them.

Edendance - I am pretty sure I bought it at the Yankee Candle Outlet at the end of November.

I also saw the small jars of it at Ross Labels by the M50 (Ross on Wye) about 2 weeks ago. Not sure if this is anywhere near you? We were on a loo stop when I saw they had a Yankee Candle display. All the christmassey ones were reduced.

I only have a small jar of it and love it so much, am after a bigger one but like you say they are not easy to find.

EDENDANCE

If the price of thr Balsam and Cedar on Amazon is an indication of how "rare" it is or how difficult to find then I dont think I will be finding it so easily again.

Imo Yankee candles are overrated. My cousin spends a fortune on them and the car air fresheners. I much prefer Glade candles I can smell them all around the flat

Yankee candles are delicious - we've still got Christmas scented ones burning.

I definitely go for a seasonal outlook and adore fresh cut roses throughout the summer, replaced by autumnal fragrances then Christmas which usually lasts until spring, when the fresh scents of lavender and lemon enter our home :)

DS' room smells awful (feet) and he shouts at me whenever I put one in! Grin

WOW! no more Asda's skankie'Yankee' candles for me now..I'll order direct from the Yankie web site, I've almost finished my 'Garden Hideaway' candle and it's lovely although 'fresh cut roses' sounds fab! Thank you all for all the tips I think I could quite easily get addicted Grin.

kukes there's a big thread in Arts & Crafts about making your own candles. I've not tried it but it seems very simple.
