DF and DStM are visiting. They live about 5 hours drive away but as I have just moved dad offered to come and stay to decorate a couple of rooms (he's a retired painter and decorator).

All very well in theory , get a nice visit and get my painting done. Except they are driving me crazy. DStM especially. Every time I see her she has some ailment or another this time being no exception. She dropped a shampoo bottle on her foot before she came and she has brought a wheelchair with her. Which I have been pushing her round in since they got here (I'm pg by the way and she's not light) but she gets around perfectly fine in the house when she thinks no ones looking Hmm.

Anyway, I won't bore you with all the other stuff (think overly critical, verbal diorreah, oh and her DD is also pg so I hear nothing but stories about that.)

They have been here 4 days and will be here another week I think I may slowly go mad.

So, my aibu is, they want to come up again in September, a couple of months after the baby is due. They want to stay a similar amount of time. Would IBU to say no, I just don't think I could cope, especially with the baby they are just so demanding! Or should I just suck it up, they are family, they love me, and want to spend time with me?

It's tricky. I think you need to say no, or say yes but for just a long weekend please.

In my experience being grumpy about people staying does not improve relationships. Better to be honest and have a short and sweet stay than a lengthier one with aggravation.

No, not unreasonable at all!

Just say it'll probably be too much at that stage.

And I suggest quickly pulling a muscle and not laying anther hand on the wheelchair.

And 'Ooh! You did really well on the stairs just now! Looks like that foot is on the mend, that's wonderful news!!'

My MIL announced that she was coming for a week after I had baby. My DH told her that a week was too long. Suggest you do the same

FunkyBoldRibena · 02/02/2014 16:15

Why are you pushing her around?

Eminybob · 02/02/2014 17:48

Yeah i may suggest a shorter visit next time. My DM also wants to come at some point when the baby comes and she's a nightmare too! It's no wonder I moved away!

We've just been out for food and DStM only needed to get from the house to the car then from the car into the pub and she insisted on the wheelchair. I did say ooh you're managing the stairs here you'll be fine, but she was having none of it. Luckily my dad was able to push her. I've had to when we've been out while dad was decorating.
I'm sure I've done my back in.
While we were out I had to bloody read the menu to them because neither had taken their glasses. Did they not realise they needed to read a menu??!! ArrrghhhhhhAngry

Bob: Please do NOT push her wheelchair. You really could do yourself an injury.

She sounds very attention seeking.

I often think some PIL threads are a bit mean, but really your DStM is not on.

A shorter visit would be better.

No, sorry - you haven't had to. You are pregnant. That's the biggest get out of jail card ever. Start bloody using it.

Eminybob · 02/02/2014 18:56

It's funny funky, she kept saying I shouldn't be doing this that and the other ie stretching, lifting stuff etc but was quite happy to let me push her.
I'm back at work next week so shouldn't have to push her anymore anyway. I bet she finds she can get around herself when it's an alternative to sitting in the house literally watching paint dry!

How big was the shampoo bottle that disabled her ?

Eminybob · 02/02/2014 20:44

Well it'd have to have been one of those giant treseme ones but in reality it was probably a travel size Hmm
