To vaccinate my kids agains men B?

It's expensive but I have booked my DC in to have it done. I can't find any reason not to, and while rare, it's so serious that I want to protect them if I can.

My mum has gone mad about it saying who knows what the long term impacts are, is it tested enough, look at MMR etc etc (I tried to explain MMR was discredited but apparently it's a case of why let the facts get in the way of a good argument Confused )

So am I forking out a fortune for something that may never happen (I think it will be on the Nhs at some point in the future) or am I taking reasonable steps to protect my DC against a horrible illness? (The money isn't actually an issue). I didn't dare tell her I've also decided to vaccinate them again chicken pox...

My dcs have been vaccinated against c pox and at some point will be against men b. apparently it offers something like 73% protection- better than 0% as far as I'm concerned.

It is very expensive though. Really hope nhs do it soon, if not I'm saving up.

Meningitis is a horrible illness but rare enough that I don't feel the need to vaccinate. If want to though, I see no reason not to.

People always think it won't happen to them, but just because it's rare doesn't mean it won't happen. I think you're being extremely sensible.

YANBU - in fact, I'm taking DS later today for the first dose.

YANBU but Where are you all going to get the vaccination?

Are Bupa/spire offering it yet?

I've found a private clinic local to me. It's not cheap though. My youngest needs 3 doses in total over 2 years at £120 each and my oldests needs 2 of them 2 months apart at the same cost (the younger has the first 2, 2 months apart then a booster 12-23 months later). So the cost is spread which helps but with 2 to vaccinate it adds up!

We paid to have DS vaccinated against chicken pox and have just booked him for MenB (two doses at £120 per dose). I just feel, why not protect him where I can. We'll do the same for imminent DC2 when she's old enough.
