AIBU to expect my self employed other half to only work 5 days a week? We have a lively 4yr old and a 5 mth old and i admit i find it difficult when on my own. He earns enough so it's not as if we need the money. My mum thinks he should earn money while he can but I think it is more important to spend time with family and stop me from going insane!

I feel your pain OP. DH is also self employed and out of the house a lot. He would work much more if I didn't complain about it.

I also find that when he is here, he isn't really present IYSWIM? He can't find things, forgets where everyone is supposed to be, doesn't think about the jobs that need to be done around the house so that we can all function ( like emptying the washing machine, or putting his clean and dry clothes away) and it drives me mad.

We have two DCs and I work 4 days a week too. Having recently gone back to work after maternity leave, I negotiated a term time only contract to make sure we can cover the school holidays as he is so reluctant to take nay time off ever.

But nobody understands, because he is self employed and lots of people seem to think that that means he should work himself to the bone and I should be grateful. I'm not. I'm resentful and overworked.

I think if we could swap places for a week they would understand. Even when he is on his own with the kids I make sure everything is organised beforehand so he has no idea how difficult it is to juggle everything. Brettgirl2 you have a point - think the money making appeals.
