to say that the physical properties of gloop are lost on toddlers and babies

I mean... its amazing... its a non-newtonian liquid which means that it doesnt behave like other liquids.

for instance if you push it it becomes solid and then as soon as the pressure is released it returns fluid

when you dribble it the stalectights are solid but when they land they turn to liquid

now as you can see im a big fan and can spend a good couple of hours with a tray of gloop.

But kids enjoy it, but dont get the amazement of it becuase they dont understand how all fluids behave????

I think toddlers appreciate it more on a "ooh, squidgy" level Grin

Panzee · 30/01/2014 14:41

Professor Frink, is that you?

FanFuckingTastic · 30/01/2014 14:43

They never make adult sized trays of gloop, do they? Maybe I want to appreciate gloop too. I shall put it on my bucket list.

Panzee · 30/01/2014 15:20

It's only cornflour and water. I don't like the texture, it's too squeaky for me.

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/01/2014 15:22

I love the stuff. We used to make bags of the stuff and take it to school.

Offler · 30/01/2014 15:41

They can't possibly enjoy it on as many levels as you OP Wink

You are not wrong op

It is like magic. A very young child sees no reason why a rabbit SHOULDN'T pop out of a hat Grin

madmomma · 30/01/2014 17:20

How do you make it? is it something I need in my life?

IneedAsockamnesty · 30/01/2014 17:26

Either way I would be very interested to know why I have a bath tub full of cornflower, anything to do with you op?

IneedAsockamnesty · 30/01/2014 17:26

Madmomma corn flour and water

madmomma · 30/01/2014 17:28

Thanks. I wonder if I dare make some for my toddlers. Will I end chipping it off my walls?

RoseRedder · 30/01/2014 17:29

is gloop like slime?

hollyhunter · 30/01/2014 17:32

well thats the beauty of it, when it dries it turns back into powder and you just hoover it up.

I like making it plain, then adding some yellow foodcolouring

after a while drip in some blue colouring and it patchily goes green.

However if you add enough water, and leave it to settle, you can pour off the colour and start again.

I love it, id play with it every day

Use warm water in this weather, or add icecubes that have different food colours in there and watch them melt!

[too much time on my hands]

the other thing is..... let the kids make it. little jugs of water with bowls of cornflower and a big spoon. the cornflower is very soft when its dry

madmomma · 30/01/2014 17:34

Oh how cool! I'm definitely making some tomorrow. Thanks!

hollyhunter · 30/01/2014 17:34

also you get different effects with different amounts of water

[going to go and make tea]

God they're going to love it!

Theas18 · 30/01/2014 20:11

Absolutely agree. Such fun and wasted on small people but so much better than play dough when it gets everywhere (ok except in the cracked concrete doorstep- the youngest is 14 and I'm sure I can see white still!)
