I have not done this...yet. I need to know what people think, or could suggest!
Dd2 is 8 wks old and was on hungry baby milk but that was making her real gripy so we put on comfort milk, but shes a hungry baby! Infacol and gripe water on their own arent working so would it be posssible to put say 2.5 sciooops of each formula? Im expecting it to not be great idea but am willing to try as long as not harmful.

If she's hungry then just give her extra feeds of normal formula. 7-8 a day is normal for this age.

deakymom · 28/01/2014 22:56

my midwife recommended hungry baby milk for mine at 5 weeks BUT just one/two bottles a day when he was extra hungry (2-7pm) so i would give him his midday bottles with the hungry baby milk then tea hungry baby millk rest of the night normal milk

deakymom · 28/01/2014 22:56

by the way comfort milk makes baby hungry as it goes through faster xx

ILiveOnABuildsite · 28/01/2014 22:56

My dd was on a mix of comfort milk and regular milk throughout most of her bottle feeding days, both from same brand, never had any issues. I think proportions were 2:3 when she was on 5 ounces if that makes sense. Never thought it might be a problem and never was for us. Later I have mixed comfort milk and hungry milk in similar proportions as above.
Just personal experience, hope it helps.

Deaky, if she's in the uk your midwife went against NHS procedure and her advice makes no sense at all.

The NHS do not advocate the use of hungry baby milk in young babies unless the child has a condition that requires them to digest milk slower than normal.

I think you're trying really hard to find a solution for your baby, and I understand all the chopping and changing, but I don't think it's actually helping her.

I would go back to basics, just plain old first stage baby milk, and feed on demand. Make sure you're winding her really well mid feed and after feed and use Infacol etc sparingly ( it made my baby constipated when we tried to stop giving it and had to wean her off it).

Can you say why you think she's especially hungry? Sometimes babies drink to excess to soothe reflux or colic. I wonder if this might be the case. Is she your first baby?

WelshMaenad · 28/01/2014 23:37

Of course she isn't, you said she's dd2. Ignore me, I'm extremely tired!

MyNameIsKenAdams · 28/01/2014 23:40

How often is she feeding? Really it should be every three hours or less. Trying to push feeds to four hoir gaps at that age is hard (and pointless tbh).

Tine feeds from the start of one (not the end) to the start of the next.

MrsAmaretto · 28/01/2014 23:49

NO!! Don't add extra powder to the feed.

I formula feed and this was what I was advised by health visitor & doctor (when baby being treated for silent reflux)

  1. Hungry baby milk is for babies who are taking too much formula & need to drink less. It tricks their Timmy's into thinking they are fuller. As someone said - it's diet formula. HV wishes it was prescription only
  2. Comfort milk is slightly thicker & is for babies with reflux.

What do you mean by a gripy baby?? Do you mean they have trouble passing wind/burping? In which case baby massage is the answer. I'd advise you to put your baby on a normal stage 1 formula & massage your baby's tummy at every nappy change. Google baby tummy massage colic routine. The "I love you" move also helps with constipation.

Is she hungry or just cluster feeding? My daughters were all formula fed & were big cluster feeders at around 8 weeks. Especially in the early evening (from 5-8pm)

IceBeing · 30/01/2014 10:02

sock heh! I must be paranoid for some reason....guilty conscience probably!

babybearsmummy · 30/01/2014 13:50

If she's finishing the whole bottle every time, make a larger amount e.g 7oz and if she only has 6oz then stick to doing 6oz each feed. I definitely wouldn't mix milks as it will make digestion harder and make her more gripy.

She could well be having a growth spurt, so will be needing extra feeds to help her grow (it's hungry work) If you're worried, try contacting your HV or GP to talk things through. But I'd suggest feeding her as much as she wants and needs, as frequently as she wants and needs.

(Coming from a mum and student MW)

brettgirl2 · 30/01/2014 13:59

5oz isn't very much. Give her more milk, then she won't be hungry. dd2 would have taken more than that at 8 weeks.

OHforDUCKScake · 30/01/2014 14:05

If a baby is hungry, dont you just feed them more often?
