To be quite disgruntled that it seems I haven't grown up to be a ballerina.

I just think it's quite unfair really.

I did ballet for like 4 or 5 years when I was quite small. Good toes, naughty toes etc etc.

I really REALLY wanted hard to be a ballerina, and I still do, so imagine my shock and dismay when I realise last night that some lovely, bendy, pointy-toes Russian lady is dancing Giselle partnered by Carlos Acosta at the Royal Opera House and I'm just WATCHING her do it at the cinema in Ellesmere Port.

Who can I complain to about this please? There's just no ballet justice in this world Sad

Awh, I love this thread! I was trained really quite seriously until I was 16 and just about to start auditioning for roles, when I did a real number on my legs and ankle, and thoroughly scuppered myself. Love the Margot Fonteyn video, dancers like Osipova are utterly beautiful but Fonteyn really had that "something".

I have a clear memory of being 4 years old and attending my first and last ballet class. I felt witheringly contemptuous that we weren't en pointe and giving it the full dying swan malarkey, and refused to go back. Amateurs.

PrimalLass · 29/01/2014 07:33

Me too. I'm not a top showjumper either Shock

I was obsessed with the Sadler's Wells books. Ballet and horses, perfect.

PsychicPaper · 29/01/2014 08:05

Does it help that I am extremely upset I couldnt eve see it on Monday at the cinema?
I loved ballet when i was smalll, and read ballet shoesapprox 4 million times.

Not only did I not grow up to be a ballerina, I was never allowed to have lessons, or even see a ballet.

However in May I started adult ballet, and I saw my first ever ballet (the nutcracker) at Christmas, so I suppose it is still possible Grin

Slubberdegullion · 29/01/2014 08:08

Mm. Just watched Ms Osipova doing a spot of practice with Carlos for the fifth time yeah I could do that. It's just no one gave me the chance to reach my full potential. It's obviously my parents I need to be writing my letter of complaint to.

Psychic they are repeating it in some cinemas. If you can I urge you most strongly to go. It was absolutely beautiful, the sets and costumes were wonderful too, although I am not a fan of winged Wilis. Queen of the Wilis was fantastically menacing too [the vengeful no mercy face]

I dreamed of going to the Royal ballet school but failed my primary ballet Blush Then I dreamed of Dd going but she became a goalkeeper built like a tank! My sister is pregnant with twin girls though so you never know!

NinjaPenguin · 29/01/2014 08:16

I wanted to do ballet. My parents didn't care less (and couldn't have afforded to anyway) but my first foster parents let me start aged 7- of course, that was comparatively late, so I gave up quickly.

One of my friends is a proper ballet dancer, she started at 4, and when we were both 12, I remember her whole life being ballet and dance, and also gym etc; for the muscles. I'm a lazy person, so no way would I have coped Blush

No grace and elegance here sadly! My DSis got that, I got short and dumpy with a 'tail' that didn't tuck in properly!

When you find out who to complain to, Slubber, can you get the name of the person to whom one complains about the lack of Famous Novelist status? I know that's what I'm meant to be except I don't have an original idea in my head so I'd like to get it rectified.

On another note, my DD2 is working hard at her ballet, she is willowy but but not yet elegant. However, she's predicted to reach a height of at least 5'10" so at some point, DH and I are going to get the memo about giving her the wrong genes for height...

Is that how SALTs are enunciating it these days Penguins?

You think that is a disappointment? I spent most of my childhood wanting to be a dog.

Now I can only softly 'woof' in the mirror as I ponder what I should have become.

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 29/01/2014 10:27

I was supposed to be an astronaut.

Hmm
mostlyharmless · 29/01/2014 10:27

When I was a child I didn't want to be a ballerina when I grew up, but I do now. Any ideas how a 35-year-old can grow up to be a ballerina?

SonorousBip · 29/01/2014 10:34

I'm disappointed. I think there are a lot of quitters on this thread. I think you have to ask yourself "What Would Posy Fossil Do?" Becase I think she would march up to Madame, tie her shoes on and just do a little dance there and then. Its a well known route to ballet stardom.

RobinSparkles · 29/01/2014 10:45

With lots of practice Mostly Wink.

RobinSparkles · 29/01/2014 10:48

I wouldn't have quit if it wasn't for my mother .

The only thing I did want to quit was Brownies but she wouldn't let me. I never wanted to go in the first place .

InfiniteJest · 29/01/2014 10:56

Canidae that's brilliant Grin

mostlyharmless · 29/01/2014 11:02

That sounds like hard work Robin. I think I'll settle for gallumphing around some adult lessons and living through dd instead. So far (5) she is managing both petite and willowy so I have high hopes Wink.
