That Bernadette Smith should have known better

I can't get my head around why a 35 year old women would want to seduce a 16 year old boy. She was his teacher and he was her pupil.
By the sounds of it she did all the running and he was flattered by it. They went for a drive and she kissed him passionately.
He told his dad afterwards that he had been out with Mrs Smith and they had kissed, Dad said "Good one son".
That he was old enough to make his own decisions and to be careful!!
She was married with 3 children at the time. She went round to his house and stayed overnight in his bed kissing and cuddling each other. The Dad was cool about it. But his Gran got wind of it and told the police.
I would be absolutely fuming if a Teacher started to give my ds the eye.
I know this is very rare to happen but she was in a position of trust and took things way too far

Sounds to me that the father was as bad as the teacher!!!

LaurieFairyCake · 28/01/2014 15:54

I think parents who allow this to happen should be prosecuted for abuse.

CailinDana · 28/01/2014 15:58

Of course she knew better, she just didn't care. People don't abuse due to ignorance they abuse because they get a kick out of it and hope they won't get caught.

The boy's father should be prosecuted for facilitating the abuse.

AntiJamDidi · 28/01/2014 15:58

It is very rare for a teacher to have any inappropriate relationship with a pupil, but it does happen and I never understand what on earth they are thinking of.

In that case it does sound as if the father was as bad as the teacher and he allowed it to happen. If it was me I would have contacted the school and the police as soon as I had the first inkling that it was anything other than a professional pupil/teacher relationship between them.

A lot of people seem to think it's not as bad if it's a female teacher, but it's exactly the same thing and should be treated as such.

curiousuze · 28/01/2014 16:00

I think she's probably delusional though

AntiJamDidi · 28/01/2014 16:02

Why is she delusional?

WilsonFrickett · 28/01/2014 16:02

She abused him. She's an abuser. It's not something you should be able to 'get your head round' - it's shocking and wrong. Just as it would be if it was a female pupil and a male teacher.

And I agree, the father here has colluded in the abuse.

FloweryFeatureWall · 28/01/2014 16:04

The female thing is a red herring. Of course she knew better. I'm sure most abusers know exactly what they are doing and how wrong it is.

LadyBeagleEyes · 28/01/2014 16:10

If this was a teacher that had done this to my son at 16 I would have wanted to kill her.

curiousuze · 28/01/2014 16:12

I think she's deluded herself into thinking this was all ok - isn't she getting psych assessment?

justmatureenough2bdad · 28/01/2014 16:24

she abused her position of trust, particularly as he was "regarded as vulnerable". beyond that, was it not consensual sex between a woman and a man (who thought he was really lucky)?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 28/01/2014 16:30

There is no 'beyond that'.

ItsATIARA · 28/01/2014 17:08

I'm not really surprised about the father. Attitudes to this sort of thing have been revolutionised (rightly so) over the last twenty years since he was at school so naturally some people won't have kept up.

WilsonFrickett · 28/01/2014 18:16

No justmature teachers are subject to stricter guidelines than the rest of us and their pupils have to be over 18 or it's still an offence. And quite right too, because they are in a position of trust which parents trust them not to abuse.

MaidOfStars · 28/01/2014 18:34

The age of consent is 18, where the relationship is teacher/pupil. So she's acted illegally.

MaidOfStars · 28/01/2014 18:34

Cross-post, didn't get to bottom, sorry.
