AIBU to let my 8 week old baby to sleep on me in evening because I enjoy cuddles too or is this detrimental to future sleep habits?

She sleeps in her cot ok and will nap through out the day on me or on bed, wherever but her evening sleep until proper bed time at 11pm is mainly on me on sofa whilst watching tv. Now I enjoy this cuddle time but I'm worried it might not be good for her sleep routines overall? I don't want to have bad habits!!!

Don't be daft of course it's ok 8 week old baby have no concept of bed time.

But be careful you don't fall asleep on the sofa it's rather dangerous to sleep on sofas with babies

YADNBU. Enjoy those sleepy snuggly baby cuddles while you can. You won't end up with a 16 year old sleeping on you, promise ....

Aw just enjoy it

Sleep will go to pot whatever you do

Wantsunshine · 27/01/2014 21:06

If you both enjoy it it is fine. I don't think you necessarily need to worry too much about her routine. I am sure you won't get outwitted by an 8 week old!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 27/01/2014 21:06

Yanbu. Treasure every minute of it. Sniff that lovely baby hair!

BonaDrag · 27/01/2014 21:06

Don't worry. If it's working for both of you then don't fret about it. I had a newborn that was attached to me constantly and we co slept. She is now a toddler who sleeps all night in her cot. Congratulations on your new baby and enjoy the lovely cuddles.

TodayIsAGoodDay · 27/01/2014 21:09

Enjoy it! It's such a short time so treasure it while you can, don't feel guilty.

We did just the same with dd. She's now a wriggly, fidgety toddler and snuggles are few and far between.

Hotmad · 27/01/2014 21:09

Oh no I would never sleep whilst she was on me, I watch tv and just relax really

Yanbu. Savour every snuggly moment.
Im totally jealous! !

OHforDUCKScake · 27/01/2014 21:15

I let me youngest do this until he was 6-7 months.

Id have done it later and actually intended too but he didnt like it anymore.

It broke my heart putting him up stairs while sitting downstairs every evening without a baby in my arms. It felt like one of the lights in the living room had gone out. It was a very odd feeling which took me a while to get used to.

It was absolutely no detriment to my babys sleep at all, he soon let me know when he needed peace and quiet at bed time.

Hes 2.7 now and goes to bed no problem.

IShallCallYouSquishy · 27/01/2014 21:19

Oh no don't stop snuggling your baby! My 20 month old is poorly and fell asleep on my chest (and stomach and legs!) earlier this evening and I loved the cuddles. The time will come where she's too fidgety to fall asleep on you too soon so enjoy every sleepy snuggle you can

SquinkiesRule · 27/01/2014 21:19

Enjoy having her sleep on you. They are so little for all of five minutes, soon enough she'll be making you drop her off one street over from where she's going because parents are embarrassing. So squeeze all the cuddles in you can.

WoodBurnerBabe · 27/01/2014 21:21

I did this until mine were 8 months old, not 8 weeks... All 3 are sound asleep upstairs in their own beds. (Age 6, 3 and 14 months). Enjoy it, I'm jealous!

Ineedanewone · 27/01/2014 21:23

Enjoy it!
Mine are all fully grown now, and learnt to self settle years ago, but I love remembering the deliciousness of those first few months.

SauceForTheGander · 27/01/2014 21:24
Envy

The way they curl up at that age and curve their back is sooooo gorgeous.

Kafri · 27/01/2014 21:24

YADNBU enjoy those cuddles while they're on offer.

They'll be plenty to come along over the coming months that'll screw sleep up for you - teething, weaning, coughs and colds, clocks changing. GrinGrin

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 27/01/2014 21:26

8 weeks old is pracctically still a fetus. They have no concept, cuddle them while they are lovely and not shouting in your face

rabbitlady · 27/01/2014 21:29

snuggle your baby! don't stop until she walks away.

HaroldLloyd · 27/01/2014 21:30

SNUGGLE THAT BABY.

Enjoy!

ginmakesitallok · 27/01/2014 21:31

So jealous! Enjoy your wee baby, mine are 10 and 4 now, even the 4 year old has stopped falling asleep on me and I miss it so much!

jaggythistle · 27/01/2014 21:32

Enjoy those cuddles!

YANBU at all.

Mine are 1 and 4 and hardly sit still now.

nobutreally · 27/01/2014 21:32

This is a stealth boast, right Grin
