On to a cars window screen asking them not to park across my drive again?

I've already done it Smile

Bit of more info, I live next to a little shop and outside the shop and my house is a small car park, enough for four cars , it is the only way I can get into my drive, there has been a car parked almost right in front of my drive since before Christmas but I can just squeeze my car past it but other people keep parking right across my drive, now I don't mind so much if they're just nipping into the shop but when they do it and go into people's house (which have empty drives) it really boils my blood, so aibu?

Yanbu

I would also take a key to the side of the car too

is your drive legal ? if so cant you have a white line painted across the entrance to your drive to stop people parking ?

PurplePillow · 27/01/2014 18:45

I'm sure my drive is legal as I had a policeman up before last year as it was happening then and at the time apart from my two ds's I was caring for my elderly sick mum and I was getting frustrated at the situation.

Well cars been moved Smile I expected a knock at the door but they just drove away Grin

I go looking for the driver when it happens here (we live next door to a Drs). Big announcement in the waiting room "Will the driver of ..... please move their car as they are blocking my drive" - they usually come scuttling out looking embarrassed.

DeWe · 27/01/2014 18:58

Taking photos very obviously of the car often results in a very quick move. Grin

2tiredtocare · 27/01/2014 18:58

I would never block a drive, what goes through people's heads. YANBU

abear · 27/01/2014 18:58

It sounds like you live in my house, this happens to me all the time, we often stick notes on cars, if we actually see them drivers usually say 'I am only popping in to the shop for a minute' as if that makes it ok for me to wait whilst they do their shopping - drives me mad!

Tulip26 · 27/01/2014 19:09

Do you have a dropped kerb? What about getting a big sign made saying you'll clamp their car?

PurplePillow · 27/01/2014 19:16

It's crazy isn't it Grin

Yes I have a dropped kerb and gates but they really don't seem to care, there's even a couple of people that park there cars here all while they go off to their work in lifts or work vans Angry

I'm going to ask my landlord about a sign as it's driven in me insane ( well more than normal) Smile

What about getting a big sign made saying you'll clamp their car?

Because that would be illegal..

PurplePillow · 27/01/2014 19:25

I meant a sign saying please do not park across this driveway Smile

OP posts:
feelingvunerable · 27/01/2014 19:42

Yes I think a sign saying strictly no parking access required at all times, would be a good idea.

We have a car park at work with gates and nearly every night some tossed will park across them.

YouTheCat · 27/01/2014 19:46

Take photos and leave them a note saying you will be posting them here .

diddl · 27/01/2014 19:57

Not sure if it's right, but I'm sure I read somewhere that you can't block a car into the drive, but if no car in the drive, it's OK to park across it.Confused

SweetTeaVodka · 27/01/2014 20:08

I feel your pain, OP. We live opposite a shop with quite a large carpark behind it (it's rarely full ime) yet people still find it easier to park across my drive, or even on it when it's empty! It would never occur to me to block a drive let alone park on someone else's unless I was visiting, but it happens several times a week, drives me batty.

SusanC5 · 27/01/2014 20:09

I have a drive leading to my house. It is quite obviously a drive and not the main highway, as it is red block paving. I have a large sign that says PRIVATE DRIVEWAY - NO PARKING. Does it stop anyone parking? No!

I have recently installed big, fuck off removable bollards. That should do the trick Grin

following · 27/01/2014 21:32

yanbu , if you have a dropped kerb and gates then its obvious its someones drive, agree with bellavita they wont risk parking there again .

TheSmallClanger · 27/01/2014 21:37

Notes rarely solve anything. You are not wrong to be annoyed though.

SarahAndFuckTheResolutions · 27/01/2014 21:39

If the car has been there a month can you not report it as abandoned?

There was one outside my mum's house for two weeks that her neighbour reported as it was blocking part of his drive. The next day the council came out to look at it, stuck some sort of formal notice on it and it was towed shortly after.

BrokenButNotFinished · 27/01/2014 21:51

Doesn't the simple act of parking across a dropped curb constitute a parking offence...? When people would do this at our last house / driveway, I used to call parking enforcement. They were more than happy to nip out on their scooters to issue a ticket. The regular offenders stopped doing it...

mummyto2boysandagirl3 · 27/01/2014 21:52

If u can not get access to ur drive u can report to the police I have never done it as I always felt it wasn't worth it but u can if u feel it's a persistent offender and u can't get ur car on or off ur drive. U can also report to the council and I think don't quote though as iv not done this either that they can remove the car if it's been left there but they have to put a notice on and there's a waiting period to give owner opportunity to move it. My mum had someone park on her drive once unload suitcases from boot and walked the 5 mins to train station turns out the woman was on way to the airport she left her car on my mums drive while she went on her nice 2 week holiday to save on airport parking cheeky mare
