to think that petitioning the government to fix holiday prices during school holiday's is a good idea.

I mean we live in a free market, why would we want government intervention on what a company can charge for something? If they did intervene where would price fixing stop?

As a general ruling fixing prices tend to result in a reduction in supply.

Anyone who wants a bigger audience for their points should get over to www.mumsnet.com/Talk/in_the_news/1981817-Call-for-government-action-over-increased-holiday-prices-during-school-holidays

I really don't see that there's anything the government could possibly do about it. We live in a free market economy, and that's the way that free market economies work.

I can however understand why people find it irritating. What's annoying, as a parent, is that you are forced to take your holiday at the time you least want to go - ie when it's too hot and the resorts are full of other parents and their children - and on top of that you have to pay extra for it. I would much rather go on holiday in June or September!

I have not read all the replies so sorry if this had already been said
I think (this waste of time) petition is in response to the threat of fines for taking children out of school during term time.
Of course holiday companies will put prices up, they need more staff and resources to cater for the influx of holiday makers.
