I had DD at a mother and toddler group this morning and got chatting to some of the mums, general chit chat, where we were from etc.
Within the same conversation we were discussing how the recession has left so many men in particular unemployed and I was saying that my dad is a taxi driver and finding it very difficult. One lady, who I had been getting on great with said "Oh your father is a taxi driver AND you grew up in x area, well I'd never have guessed you came from such a working class background. Good on you!" and she patted my knee!!
THEN "Though, it's clear you had DD slightly younger than most" with a laugh and a jovial elbow!

The others seemed quite embarrassed but one or two made "agreeing, good on you" noises and enthusiastic nods.

What the actual fuck? I'm no use put on the spot like that so I foolishly muttered something along the lines of thanks!!!!

Diabolo I don't understand -do you think all women are snobby? What about working class women? Surely you don't expect half the population of the world to hold the same views?

I think you need the mumsnet catchphrase "Did you mean to sound so rude?" - works best while smiling sweetly at the same time.

I think she is rude but probably thinks you look young/good for your age.

I had a woman recently explaining to me how she had had her children later on in life kind of implying that I was a young mum , I let her continue as she then said I smelt lovely and how did I stay so slim!

I have also had people from snobby toddler groups express surprise that I live where I do.
