AIBU to reduce my hours?

I have 2 DC, 4 and 7 months. After having DC1 I went back to work FT, putting my PFB in nursery. Due to our financial situation at the time I couldn't afford to not work or reduce my hours. Now the time has almost come for me to return to work after DC2, and thanks to a slight improvement in our situation we could afford for me to drop my hours and work 3 days 8.30 - 3.00. The thing is, this would mean that we would have to budget for every penny. There will be no extra money for holidays, half term treats or days out. I long to be around more for DC2, probably because I felt I missed so much with DC1. What I want to know is AIBU to make the family go without certain things so I can be at home more? Is my heart ruling my head?

Thank you all, I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. DH is the main earner and he's supporting me 100% after we chatted and he realised how important it is to me.

Work isn't known for its flexibility so if I get part time I can't see them upping my hours again, but, I suppose I'll have to cross that bridge when we get to it.

After reading all your comments, I've gone and emailed my request. I don't want to look back in 10 years time and regret not doing when the opportunity was there.

Thank you all.

Pans, I had the opposite, as a teacher. I dropped to 4 days after Dd1, but I was basically doing the same as everyone else, apart from one class. It think it depends how well your school is set up for part timers. Mine wasn't at the time, but they are a bit better now. I found it easier to go back full time.

I'm in your shoes and chose 4 days. It's not a nightmare if we get a flat tyre or Need a tooth filled and can afford a holiday.
