DH and I need to buy a gift for our 2 year old niece's birthday, but don't have DC of our own and have no idea what to buy her! Something under £50 would be perfect.

Help me, oh wise MNers!

This: m.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/art/10192013/

It folds quite small but still would need some storage space. I didn't buy a play kitchen due to not having space so is be wary of that as a gift for someone else. Duplo is ace. I think DD likes it too. :) DD would also love a toy pram. I've not got her one though.

katese11 · 25/01/2014 19:06

Wooden stacking robots...He's 4.5 now and still plays with them

JacqueslePeacock · 25/01/2014 19:08

Duplo. The fire station is great!

clippityclop · 25/01/2014 19:09

Another vote for Happyland. Great because you can add to it. DDs and gds love it, especially the trains and the farm animals.

AcrylicPlexiglass · 25/01/2014 19:10

baby doll.

maltravers · 25/01/2014 19:10

Micro scooter- fantastic

ChasedByBees · 25/01/2014 19:11

I gave DD the duplo ambulance, combining her love of 'nee naw' and building things.

KatherinaMinola · 25/01/2014 19:15

The micro scooter would be an awesome present!

Duplo, duplo, duplo has been by far the best value toy - DD has played with it every day from 19mo to now (3.5). We just got the farm set for Christmas - it's £19.99 and a lovely substantial present.

Smartiepants79 · 25/01/2014 19:17

Duplo. Mini trampoline. Playdoh. Top three I'd say. Nothing noisy!

SybilRamkin · 25/01/2014 19:18

These are all brilliant, thank you! Think we might go with the Saxoflute and perhaps a tea set too.

Hmm, or maybe Duplo?

toy doctor's kit (still playing with it 2 years later)
duplo (ditto)

Princessgenie · 25/01/2014 19:25

Tea set; easel;and most recently a farm set from toys r us. She adores it. Plays with it loads and loads.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 25/01/2014 19:25

Ikea Circus play tent. She absolutely loves it and it slides under the sofa for storage.

BratinghamPalace · 25/01/2014 19:26

A bank account with 50.00 in it. We got one each for DCS from my friend. I put a small amount in every month and am amazed at how well it is doing. Now, I find that I often stop myself buying the odd bit of crap and decide to put that money into their account. Am excited by the whole thing. By far the best present we ever got.

stopgap · 25/01/2014 19:28

Mine is 2.5 and adores his play kitchen, puzzles and books. Also, a mini trampoline for his wild and crazy days.

BornToFolk · 25/01/2014 19:28

Wooden train tracks and trains. And play food with a till - lots of playing shops!
The doll buggy was insanely popular with both DS and all his friends who came to play too.

Badvoc · 25/01/2014 19:28

Wooden building blocks
Ikea Wooden kitchen

AmIGoingMad · 25/01/2014 19:29

Huge tub of mega bloks.

Thomas wooden railway- had been used every day for over a year now and no sign of waning!

Chipandspuds · 25/01/2014 19:35

DS has just turned two and big favourites of his are toy kitchen and food, he likes making me 'cups of tea', Duplo bricks, scooter, wooden train set, playdoh and anything arts & crafts related.

ChasedByBees · 25/01/2014 19:35

If they go travelling a lot, a truggi would be good.

Yika · 25/01/2014 19:38

Tea set by far

Also
Dolls bed
Dolls pushchair

I got a mini micro scooter for my DD at 2 but she only really got to grips with it around 3, so I wouldn't recommend it for a 2 year old

If you want books or DVDs, maisy by lucy cousins is brilliant for a 2 year old. We watched or read about maisy every day for about a year.

My DD also enjoyed getting new clothes even at 2.

somewherewest · 25/01/2014 19:40

The IKEA kitchen was a massive hit for DS's second birthday. They also do nice sets of utensils and pots and pans. A wooden train set was another big hit (go with Big Jigs or Brio - the Thomas stuff is very over-priced because you're basically paying for the brand). Happyland stuff is good too - DS is still into the Happyland farm he got when he was around 18 months.

hugoagogo · 25/01/2014 19:43

A play keyboard and stool from elc; dd absolutely loved it and played with it until she was about 7.
