to think people are unreasonable to call Kristen Stewart miserable?

I do see on here jokes about how miserable she is and how they saw a post on FB about her many expressions and they were all the same miserable face.

I don't think people realise what they doing by laughing along. If you've ever been told "smile it might never happen" when walking in the street minding your own business you'll know how infuriating this comment is.

Men find the time to get in my face and tell me this bullshit out of some misguided notion that the world must see me smile.

Women have an obligation to look and act a certain way and when they don’t they get ridiculed. The media and society have led us all to believe that women must be happy. Women should present a happy face to the world.

KS goes against that. It's not an obligation to smile and I love the fact that she did not feel the need to conform.

If you think she's a bad actress then fine you can have opinion (I differ from that opinion but I have seen her in more than just Twilight) but I don't think she should be judge for conforming to how society expects a woman to behave.

Which films are you recommending that will put her in a superior acting light?

I never said she was an amazing actress, I think she's good definitely. I enjoyed "On the Road" .... the book is better however.

I've never worked in that industry however or done more than drama classes at school so I don't think I can really qualify to say what is good and bad acting.

IMO I think Charlize Theron is an amazing actress. But my opinions don't count for shit in the grand scheme of things.

She's a successful actress with a privileged life most of us can only dream off. And she has loads of teen fans that queue out in all weathers just to see her.
A smile of acknowledgement to them might be nice.
I think the RL ordinary person in the street is completely different, it's no one's business if I look miserable, but if I was a successful Hollywood actress I might try and crack a smile at my fans.

Justholdthesmile · 25/01/2014 18:13

Because its the public's perception of them that puts bums on seats.

Well I guess she doesn't really give a shit about people think.

Which isn't always a bad thing.

But you're not. We can all project a pretty perfect version of ourselves when we say - "IF I was this then ...."

You can't really judge something unless you've been in that situation, lived that lifestyle.

It wouldn't be a bad thing if her income didn't depend on it.

Would you go to see a film starring someone that you didn't like?

Justholdthesmile · 25/01/2014 18:17

Although people often comment on the fact Andy Murray looks miserable

True, but I think his comment about England/World Cup was what got peoples backs up.

(I know this comment was misconstrued and was a joke but it just shows the power of the media - they can bring you up just as easily as they can tear you back down)

Most probably, it's hard to say.

I really like Joseph Gordon-Levitt but never wanted to see Lincoln.

If it was a film I knew I would like then yes I would most likely give it a chance.

Well the only acting I've ever seen her do is look miserable in the few Twilights I've seen, which seems her default expression in RL.
I don't think she'd be very good at light comedy somehow, she doesn't appear to have a broad range of acting ability.

HermioneWeasley · 25/01/2014 18:23

I suffer massively from bitchy resting face so I sympathise.

But there's no excuse for the "acting" which consists of lip biting.

Justholdthesmile · 25/01/2014 18:47

But you just admitted you've only seen her acting in Twilight.

Meh. It always surprises me how many experts we have on MN in so many different fields.

You come across like a bit of a crazed fan Op.
Give me Judy Dench, Julie Walters or Helen Mirren any day, true professionals.
And know how to be gracious to their fans.

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 25/01/2014 19:02

Who cares if she comes across miserable? I'd rather that then she was smiling falsely all the time.

I've seen her in another film apart from Twilight. Can't remember the name Blush but I thought she was quite good in it.

ScarletLady02 · 25/01/2014 19:05

I definitely have "bitchy resting face"....I'm so glad I now have a name to put to it. I look pissed off ALL THE TIME...

But then I am pissed off nearly all the time anyway. I'm forever being asked "Are you alright? Something wrong?" etc etc ad nauseum

I once had "cheer up love, might never happen" when I was just leaving my office having been made redundant

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE

Justholdthesmile · 25/01/2014 19:12

How? I hate that about AIBU, it's ok to demean people by making them out to be crazy.

If I had come on here and said she is the most amazing actress ever etc then yeah ok ... but I didn't.

I said she was good, said I have enjoyed the independent indie films shes been in and that just because she doesn't conform to how society thinks she should behave she shouldn't be mocked for it.

I'd say that about any woman. Actress/singer/nurse/housewife - I support anyone who doesn't conform to what society expects.

You could say the same about someone who is overweight but decides they are happy with this - they are going against what society and the media would accept.

I've seen her in a few things such as adventureland and into the wild (not seen twilight) and really don't think much of her acting, it'll do but is no great shakes. As for smiling, she can do what she bloody wants, though I think it's a shame she doesn't smile more as she looks lovely when she does.
I remember reading once that vB doesn't smile because for so long she hated her teeth so she trained herself out of it. I can really relate to this. We don't know who else feels like this too.
