about £2.50 difference where we live Hmm

snoggle · 24/01/2014 18:24

A panino is Italian bread, sort of flat roll, split with a filling and toasted.
I think of a toastie as being made with slices from a large loaf?

AnUnearthlyChild · 24/01/2014 18:25

Yeah, about three quid

BrennanHasAMangina · 24/01/2014 18:25

I think panini are made on ciabatta or focaccia usually?

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 24/01/2014 18:25

the bread! ciabatta= panini; normal english bread= toasty

Binkyridesagain · 24/01/2014 18:27

Toastie is filled with ham and cheese, or beans if you have a breville and involves you burning your mouth.

Panini has posh stuff in it, a bit of greenery and doesn't require a trip to A&E.

Facebaffle · 24/01/2014 18:30

Italian toastie = panini Smile

GinOnTwoWheels · 24/01/2014 18:31

A panini yes I know it is technically a panino but I think it is just a little bit anal for English speakers to call them that is made in a panini press so that it is all squashed but a toastie is just toasted sliced bread. That's how I see it anyway.

mameulah · 24/01/2014 18:35

I did wonder, thank you everyone!

The bread I believe.

EmmaBemma · 24/01/2014 19:54

I'd go a toastie over panini any day. Panini are more squashed and hard, I find, and strangely unsatisfying. Whereas a ham and cheese toastie can stand proud in the history of world cuisine.

JupiterGentlefly · 24/01/2014 20:02

I used to put tinned spaghetti in my breville toasties.. they were bloody lovely.. I am sure my lip still bears the scar.

livelablove · 24/01/2014 20:02

I agree emma btw don't bother with those little bags that go in the toaster and you put a whole sandwich in, they are rubbish.

dawntigga · 24/01/2014 20:02

About a quid on the price.

I'm with you snoggle. How hard would it be to call it a panino instead of a panini? Grin Agree with others that it's a baguette (long bread).

A toastie is a toasted sandwich made with normal sliced bread.

HoratiaDrelincourt · 24/01/2014 20:19

Best toasties involve pizza toppings - spread bread with tomato paste, add basil, cheese, onions, mushrooms, etc, then toastie. Incredible.

Or Nutella with sliced banana and mini marshmallows. But leave to cool for several minutes unless you enjoy second degree burns.

BabyMummy29 · 24/01/2014 20:25

I like old fashioned toasties like cheese, ham, onion, tomato etc. To me, paninis always taste a bit stale and hard, it must be the bread.

Toastie every time for me

HoratiaDrelincourt · 24/01/2014 20:27

I always think ciabatta tastes stale.

Agree that they are cheap and comforting.

My George Foreman is brilliant for making them

HoratiaDrelincourt · 24/01/2014 20:46

Yy to George Foreman.

I gave up bread at New Year Sad

TiggyOBE · 24/01/2014 21:52

A toastie is what Jamie Oliver used to call a toasted sandwich 20 years ago. Now he's gone all la-di-dah he would call them paninis.
