To think this song is inappropriate for a soft play?

'Beep' by the pussycat doll / will I am (I think that's what it's called anyway)

It's the song that goes like : I don't give a 'beep' if your looking at my 'beep'

And: you got real big brains but I'm looking at your 'beep'

And: I'm doing my thing while your playing with your 'beep'

This one:

I was at a soft play this afternoon and this was belting out over the speakers. Ok so the inappropriate words have a beep noise over them but really? The place was full of under 5's.

I know I can't censor music everywhere and my daughter will end up hearing lyrics I don't think are age appropriate, but when I take a 4 year old to a soft play I don't expect to hear this type of music.

Agree wholeheartedly. I suspect the music is chosen by the teenagers who are staffing the place, and appropriateness for toddlers hasn't crossed their minds. A word with the manager, methinks...

inkyfingers · 24/01/2014 17:59

It's for the bored staff and parents?

GlitzAndGiggles · 24/01/2014 18:02

The beep bits are the actual lyrics they're not hiding swear words but I agree it's inappropriate for a soft play

MakingEveryDayCount · 24/01/2014 18:03

I really think the toddlers aren't going to be sat in the ball pool analysing lyrics.
They''re far more likely to be haring around the place at full speed while chucking soft balls at each others heads to care too much.

Sirzy · 24/01/2014 18:06

Do many under 5s pay attention to the lyrics though?

Tbh I am amazed that music could be heard at all over the racket of children having fun

Xfirefly · 24/01/2014 18:07

doubt toddlers are going to notice tbh

BigPinkBalloons · 24/01/2014 18:09

Our softplay does this...I think it's for the staff, who look totally bored apart from when someone orders a coffee.

Meh I don't censor the music I listen to at all in front of my dc, in fact I used to play tupac to my bump.

When I think of the songs I used to sing in the playground with my friends at a young age I really cannot get worked up about the pussy cat dolls.

Joules68 · 24/01/2014 18:11

Could be worse

TinyTwoTears · 24/01/2014 18:14

I wouldn't be comfortable with it.

But DD, aged 4, heard that song "you're sexy and you know it " (I think that's what it's called). She was singing it the other day but her version was "you're Betty and you know it". I was a bit relieved.

See if its just background music in a shop or something it wouldn't be too bad but this is a fairly new soft play with a good speaker system - they music is very clear all over the soft play in in the frame.

They also have Minnie and Mickey Mouse come out every so often (when the hotdog song plays) and peppa pig (to the peppa pig theme tune) and some other characters too.

The kids do listen out for the music as they know the characters come out when these songs come on. As for not listening to the lyrics, that might be true for some children but mine is like a sponge when it comes to songs / tv theme tunes / adverts.

YANBU, our local softplay's usual choice is banging dance music, I don't expect the staff to listen to nursery rhymes all day but even radio would be fine then at least it would be a mix of stuff.
