I just always feel slightly threatened, I know the vast majority of Muslims are lovely nonviolent people but.just this sight always unnerve me. Be honest, who hadn't felt a bit uncomfortable when passing by a huddle of the burqa wearers? Not trying to be racist, I'd feel the same if it were Christians or Jews or any other religion wearing it.

Welcome to Mumsnet

LineRunner · 23/01/2014 23:22

Whereas I feel your post is actually trying to be racist.

Who'd have thought it, eh?

ilovesooty · 23/01/2014 23:23

In what way do you feel threatened?

DontCallMeDaughter · 23/01/2014 23:24

Yabu. And racist.

Sorry.

Janorisa · 23/01/2014 23:24

WTAF

Honestly I am not being racist, it's just the fact that I.can't see the persons identity that pit's me on edge, silly I know, but.that's my natural instinct

My 2 year old screamed and ran away once when a group of ladies dressed thus came up to her. But she is 2 and can only see swathes of dark fabric. As an adult, who knows that there is a human underneath lots of fabric, I think it's a bit unreasonable to be frightened unless you hold bizarre prejudices about the person underneath. It's like bring frightened of people in scuba diving gear, or astronauts.

WaffilyVersatile · 23/01/2014 23:25

I don't think you are being racist. Ignorant and inflammatory perhaps but not racist - since muslim isn't a race last time I checked?

caroleharolde · 23/01/2014 23:26

Point taken lobster

I feel very threatened by the burqa.

My nan says if you walk too close to a woman wearing one, a pinhole in her veil can actually suck you in and transport you to the 7th dimension.

My nan is never wrong.

Oh and YANBU.

caroleharolde · 23/01/2014 23:26

I just can't believe that most people are fully accepting though, why else would it have been banned in France?

Fifyfomum · 23/01/2014 23:27

I can imagine people being just as threatened by young women wearing next to nothing in the summer.

That must come across as quite threatening if it isn't something you are used to.

PistolAnnies · 23/01/2014 23:27

Woah ... Just waiting for the MN riots now ... Wink

P.S. YABU !!

As said above, Muslim is not a race. Your sentiments are unpleasant though imo.

WaffilyVersatile · 23/01/2014 23:28

here here! and by that train of thought Jews and Homosexuals should be run outta town too.. Hmm

ilovesooty · 23/01/2014 23:28

Go and live in France if you'd find it more to your taste then.

Lj8893 · 23/01/2014 23:29

Yawn

caroleharolde · 23/01/2014 23:29

Jews and homosexuals?why exactly? They're entire identity is not hidden behind a thick layer of fabric where you can't be certain if there's a man or woman underneath

OP posts:
WaffilyVersatile · 23/01/2014 23:30

yeah but they have been banned in the past and as you said, there must be a good reason.. right?

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/01/2014 23:31

You are hidden by layers of internet and I am certainly feeling threatened by your views. People in burkas, not so much.

Alifelivedforwards · 23/01/2014 23:31

Move aside people, there's no intelligent discussion to be had here...

(All report though as this is bullcrap.)
