Today was dd's one year review, as she's lost half a kg in the last two months was looking fwd to it.

Turned up to a deserted clinic, not even contact numbers around, hung around, asked reception and no help. Finally got a number to and was told the woman was off sick. I was polite but annoyed.

She said she definitely left a message on my answer phone (there is none) and she had a recording on her computer of her doing it.

A few hours on I can't help but think that's pure bs. Surely no nhs service records phonecalls and stores them on a computer????

Where I used to work all phone calls were automatically recorded by computer. If you are on bt then they have a stupid answer machine which could be where the message was left.

YANBU. I would write and ask for confirmation of the number that they called as you are concerned about whether they have the correct phone number for you as you have no answerphone. Also point out that if they called the wrong number and left a message then they may have breached patient confidentiality.

4horsesforcourses · 22/01/2014 17:09

She quoted the correct number, but may have misdialled. Mistakes happen and I wouldn't be hugely bothered if not for the recording claim. Does it means all are recorded if real. If so they have an out of character narky record of me today after waiting around for ages. If true it freaks me out a bit.

The once I did have a message on my mobile phone from social services with a huge amount of info, was shocked. They called back too swearing they had called another number and I wasn't the number I said

She probably meant that she made a note on the record of leaving a message rather than actually recording the call.

Thumbwitch · 29/01/2014 03:27

Health and Social Services professionals should NEVER leave information on an answerphone, precisely in case it is a wrong number (or a wrong link) - they should simply leave a message asking the person to call back asap.
Far too risky to put a load of info on an answerphone!

Frostedloop · 29/01/2014 05:42

They are allowed to leave a message saying your appointment us cancelled etc, but not give out patient info such as what clinic it is. Most HVs wouldn't have access to recorded phone calls so that's either a lie or she meant the mobile phone log oif her dialling your number.

FlorenceMattell · 29/01/2014 06:09

Take the baby to your GP if you are worried about weight loss. He might rule out medical problems and refer you back to health visitor but at least then you have not wasted time.
If your Health Visitor is I'll ask to see another one in your area.

HV ill - predictive text :(

TeacupDrama · 29/01/2014 09:53

when I call a phone from work ( as a dentist) we say this is teacup dental practice this is a message for joe bloggs could you call us back or this is a reminder that your appointment is Thursday 30th january at 3.30pm
I would not mention any other details in case wrong number or someone else in household picks up message

SeaSickSal · 29/01/2014 10:52

Yeah, I have Sky phone, I had absolutely no idea that I had an answerphone for ages via them.

Also they do record calls at some NHS trusts, particularly in depts where appts are given out.

Could she have used your mobile number and left a voicemail on there maybe?

SeaSickSal · 29/01/2014 10:55

You definitely could leave a message saying x clinic is cancelled today. No personal information needed.

I think that it may well be the case that the calls are recorded (possibly outgoing only) because there may be an issue with child protection. If records of what has happened when and what contact is made are needed later (for example for a court case) they will be hotter with record keeping.

I suspect they may have to do things to adhere to the Police & Criminal Evidence Act.
