To be disgusted with Pets at home?

I had to pop in there yesterday to get some food. I had my toddler DD with me so we had a look around all the animals. We got to the adoption bit and there was a gorgeous brown rabbit there called Thumper - if I could have taken him home I would. He was so friendly and kept trying to reach up to us - really friendly. However, his water bowl was bone dry with what looked like remnants of what looked like straw.

I went over to one of the employees to let them know he was completely out and was rudely told: "Well, I'm a bit busy at the minute!"

Fair enough, they might have been busy - but they weren't swamped and there were about 3 of them working in the store. But I found their tone disgusting. They seriously don't care - despite what they like to say.

I just hope he did get his water. I feel awful that I wasn't able to take him. If I could, I would have in a heartbeat.

Hamsters. Very over bred by their suppliers - I went through a period where I was going through hamsters like a serial killer - my flower bed has more corpses than the local cemetery. The didnt die of anything normal like old age, they had thinks like hereditary liver failure and strokes. One P@H vet asked me if I wanted a referral to a Small Rodent Neurologist. I did not know these people existed and I suspect its a niche market that one.

Summed up nicely with £6.50 to buy, and £21 to send it merrily into the gas chamber and have it returned in a little cardboard coffin.

Small Rodent Neurologist my arse!

livid Proper fish shops sell biorbs. They aren't goldfish bowls. They are a proper 30 litre aquarium setup. Just a different shape to your usual square tank. Why do the fish care what shape their tank is as long as they have room to swim?

Normal tiny goldfish bowls are awful and they don't actually have any on their website. But the kids tanks are questionable.

Bohemian Girl, I'd just like to point out, in case of any confusion that the vets inside a pets at home store do not worm for pets at home, they are a separate company. It's also a vet's job to give you all the treatment options, however obscure or unlikely they seem. Not many owners would elect to use a rodent neurologist but they are out there are so vets have to give you the option. What I mean to say, is that the neurologist suggestion was not a money making exercise, if you see what I mean.

Pets At Home Lying to costumers about not accepting Cash.
Pets At Home claims World Health Organisation recommended Card payments only as Cash transfers Corona Virus.
(An Outrageous Lie) World Health Organisation NEVER said that
and Cash Money does not transfer Corona (Check for yourselves)

Pets At Home stated that it stopped taking cash "To protect its staff"
Another outrageous Lie, because none of the staff was issued with any Masks or "Glass Guards by the till" or any other protective measure.
Pets At Home, taking advantage of the Corona Pandemic to pass
the NO CASH policy in all its stores to serve its own agenda and nothing else, while doubling their prices.
Avoid buying from this company as it is taking advantage of you during these difficult times.

Why have you resurrected a 6 year old zombie thread to express your rage @Seraldea Hmm

Pet store workers are at the end of their tether right now. If we don't want to take cash then that is our choice. I'm sure pets at home would much prefer to take cash and not lose a sale if they could!
I bet you didn't even stay 2m away from staff whilst you were ranting about them not taking your cash.
Our company (not pah) alone has had a tremendous increase in demand for pet food and reduced levels of staff to cope with the demand. So if we decide we want to protect our staff as much as we can then we will!
In fact we've closed the store over the bank holiday so staff can have a break. Dreading Tuesday when we get the "my dog ran out of food on Saturday and it's your fault" complaints...

They import vast amounts of animals from Spain, the equivalent of puppy farming for rodents/bunnies. Their care is not of the best, IMO. There was a clearly u well degu one day, trying to sit but kept tipping over. I told a member of staff who a) took ages to check then b) told me it was ‘tired’. I just was gobsmacked. I would never buy an animal from there, I can’t bear caging animals anyway.

Bugger, didn’t see it was a zombie, sorry! 🧟‍♀️

Please avoid them. They have serious form for abuse of animal welfare law in the UK. . In the US there have also been several lawsuits after dogs died or came back with broken Jaws after using their grooming service.
