To fire my cleaners for throwing away my last box of breast pads

I have had mastitis three times in the last three months. Just went to get some new breast pads out of my new box and it is missing. Dh denies all knowledge. Oh and the cleaners are a bit rubbish anyway.

Fwiw i cut and hilighted my own hair for years and it looked great. Ive had no training at all to show me how. I just learnt from observing the hairdresser when they did it and some youtube tutorials. I could also easily fling my black bin bags in the car and take it to the dump on my way to somewhere else- it would actually involve less walking than taking my bin down the alley to the road involves.

FFS the OP is unwell and not long had a baby and all some posters can do is have a go about her getting some household help?

Obviously she is B rather U but cut her some slack. Don't you have a loo that needs scrubbing or something instead of posting mean comments?

Spag, cleaners are wonderful. I hate cleaning and am genuinely shit at it - my cleaner is good at it and much faster. The upshot is my house is clean, my cleaner is employed and we're all happy. Why would you clean your house if you didn't have to [baffled]?

Spag - I have always had cleaners, I pay them well and have no guilt about having them. I don't work but have plenty of other interesting and rewarding things to do with my days that don't involve rubber gloves and toilet brushes.
I don't understand why someone would disapprove of having cleaners.

I am not lazy spagbogs and I have a cleaner! I teach fulltime and am a single parent to three boys. I could justify it by talking about the illness I have or the problems I have with my oldest son but I won't. I am far from lazy but once a week a lovely lady bleaches my floors and hoovers my carpets and I love that day. For a couple of hours it's just bliss.......

Judgy much? If I had the means, employing a cleaner would be top of the list. Have done in the past, and it was lovely.

Its not the fact she has a cleaner(s) that goads me...its the whinging about a pack of breast pads. How much are they these days? Jeez!

What difference does it make how much a packet of breast pads cost?

Whether they cost 20p or £20 is irrelevant, you don't employ a cleaner to throw away stuff that you want to use.

OP has said that the cleaners are a bit rubbish and that she's concerned about the work they do more than once, she is not obliged to put up with a shit service just because she has the luxury of being able to afford a cleaner.

So if you can afford it and could be giving someone gainful employment, why aren't you?

I have a cleaner. I'm not sure how that makes me lazy and would love to be enlightened.

Presumably I am also lazy for paying for my son to have school dinners rather than making him a packed lunch, for paying a hairdresser to highlight my hair rather than cracking open the Clairol, paying for a decorator to paint my house, paying for car wash people to wash my car.....?

Oh well, I'm a lazy fucker too. I had been thinking of cutting down the hours my cleaner does, but she was telling me how much she is struggling financially so I didn't. She needs a job, I could do with some help around the house as I work, I can afford to pay her. It's win win. I don't see why people have an issue with that, but are happy to employ a painter for example.

Oh and my cleaner has in the past thrown out things I need such as a carrier bag containing a receipt that I needed to take a top back. I blame myself for not putting it safe, not the cleaner.

I think when you employ other people you have to accept that sometimes they make mistakes. I would expect breast pads to be something that was kept either in a bathroom cupboard or with underwear so would possibly assume box with only a few in it in close proximity to the bin could be rubbish.
However, if you have other concerns about the quality of the clean then you need to sit your cleaner down and talk to them about it. If they don't know you don't like what they are doing they can't change.

Ah, OP, I understand. Just this morning I was considering firing the scullery maid as I found a trace of poppy seeds on some of the crockery.

Actually, no, no I didn't, because I am human and think about others.
Here's a novel idea: why not talk to your cleaners and ask them to check before throwing something away?
Mastitis sucks but really?

The lady who does for us doesn't tidy - I do that - and she shoots around scrubbing stuff after I've picked up all the grot. It's a great system, she gets paid and I have a lovely house for about 10 minutes until DP and the cats and DSs descend and muck it all up again!

As for the judgy-pants-you're-a-lazy-slapper-if-you-have-a-cleaner brigade ... How is employing a professional to do a job for you a bad thing?

gamerchick great idea thanks. If you rip a nappy in half do all the aborbant bits fall out?
Spagbols there are only 2 cleaners because that is how my cleaner chooses to work. then they only need to be in my house half the time. I agree that they are a luxury but with a 4 year old with special needs, a 2 year old and 8 week old I need the extra help at the mo.

So I have mentioned to them a couple of times that they are missing bits and that I don't want them to clean certain areas and they have ignored me. This seems like good reason to change cleaners right?

I have no children, I work pt, I have a cleaner. I'm not lazy I just prefer to spend my time doing things I enjoy (cleaning is not one of them).

If I am blessed with a baby I will have the cleaner come even more often!

I would discuss their efforts with them op. You don't want to resent paying them if you are not happy with their service. Do you have any other recommendations from friends. I think I'm so happy to pay for my cleaner because she really is excellent and can do far more in a few hours than i can do all week!

OP, YANBU! I almost posted the same Aibu two weeks ago when our useless cleaner binned our half empty, but clearly still going, tube of toothpaste. I only found out at 10pm, and had to get re-dressed and trudge to the corner shop for more.

But I thought maybe it was an honest mistake, or it had just got lost unlikely

THEN last week she binned the baby's bonjela. OMFG. Imagine the scene - screaming exhausted teething baby at 3am and no bonjela. I was raging. Especially as she never ever picks up empty toilet rolls, wipes packets, tissue boxes etc that are unmistakeably finished!

I did consider firing dh when he ironed my reusable breastpads, and melted the waterproof backing so they were useless. I decided to put him on probation instead - come to think of it, that must be nearly over now, as the baby concerned is 17 this year....
