To think I probably haven't got the job?

I went for a job interview on Friday, I was informed that I'd find out "early next week" whether I'd got the job or not. AIBU to think that because I haven't heard anything by now I haven't been successful?

TIA

Do you know how many other candidates there were?

missymayhemsmum · 21/01/2014 19:04

Yup, probably not. Although they may not have made a decision yet/ have offered it to someone who is thinking about it/ be taking up references/ be being a bit crap. Maybe leave it till Thursday and if you haven't heard, then phone them, assuming you haven't got the job but asking for feedback?

PrincessWellington · 21/01/2014 19:05

In my experience, what they say and what they do are two different things.

BistoBear · 21/01/2014 19:07

They interviewed 17 candidates for 6 posts. It's the NHS and I believe the normal procedure is to notify the successful candidate prior to obtaining references.

I think I'll wait then phone for feedback, thank you :)

Probably not, sorry. :(

I've always had a phonecall on the same day as the interview, and I try to do the same when I'm interviewing. At the latest, I'd call the next working day.

Having said that, you never know! I have one friend who was offered the job more than two weeks after interview, with no contact in between. Turned out that they were just incredibly disorganised about everything. She didn't stay long!

FryOneFatManic · 21/01/2014 19:08

It's not guaranteed that you haven't. But I'd be honest and think it's unlikely.

I got a job last summer, and was called the day after my interview (I already knew they were interviewing until the lunchtime on that second day).

My first job, I was offered at the interview.

The only job I've had to wait for (and felt I hadn't got) was one in the Civil Service. I got a call 12 weeks after the interview, when I'd already forgotten about it. I spent nearly 20 years in the Civil Service Grin

I would probably say not, purely because I would have called the successful applicant by now. Going on the last lot of interviews I did, we'd called within 24 hrs.

However as PP has said there could just be a delay - perhaps other staff need to okay the panel decision. FX for you.

Watto1 · 21/01/2014 19:15

I once got offered a job 4 months after I had been interviewed for it! Maybe I'm paranoid but I thought that perhaps I was not their first choice for the job Grin . I already had started a different job by then so turned them down.

BistoBear · 21/01/2014 19:19

It's very frustrating not knowing. I have friends that have been interviewed and received no phone call, email or letter.

Oh well, shall wait til Friday and phone for feedback, thanks again :)

Last job I was offered was 2 months after the interview. I had been warned it would be a while. Definitely ask for feedback on Thursday/Friday.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 21/01/2014 19:25

Yes, i think a phone call on Thursday would be justified. Good luck OP, still a (sliver of a) chance!

AbbeyBartlet · 21/01/2014 19:39

I didn't find out whether I had my current job until 3 weeks later - and there were only two candidates AND one my my prospective bosses wanted me to work there as I worked for him before. So you never know!

VenusStarr · 21/01/2014 19:49

You still might be in with a chance. My first NHS job I didn't hear for a week, so I called for feedback and the manager said I don't know what you're on about, we are offering you the job! Apparently I was to recieve a letter but it never came. But all worked out well in the end :) so give them a call. Even if you weren't successful, you'll hopefully get some useful feedback. Good luck.

I've just got a job with the nhs too, I heard through the post and was 3 weeks after the interview, it's took 4 months in all to actually start, I assume that different trusts have different ways of doing things though.

ThePinkOcelot · 21/01/2014 20:07

Not surprised with the NHS. Wouldn't rule it out just yet.
