To not understand how to find good podcasts.

I know that sounds ridiculous but I find technology very overwhelming.

I managed the other day to find and download Desert Island Disc interviews.

But how do I search for newsy/daytime type podcasts? I don't really recognise anything on the itunes podcasts thing.

Can anyone help?

Please!

tia

I love PlanetMoney and This American Life. I also like After the Jump for a bit of design / New York style.

You can also search for BBC Radio 4 programmes in their podcast version.

I suppose like anything by recommendation or if there are some which you like, look for others by the same person?

CustardOmlet · 19/01/2014 21:36

I'm well up on technology, but am also baffled by the podcast system, particularly the app. Hoping someone comes along with an idiots guide of do it. So far all I have is Infinite Monkey Cage.

Check on the BBC website, they have loads of good ones.

elspethmcgillicuddy · 19/01/2014 21:42

There are some really good bbc ones. They have the whole archive of Great Lives and A Life Scientific which are both great. I think they also do book ones.

I am a massive fan of Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast and also the Proopcast (Greg Proops The Smartest Man in the World) which is a bit more hit and miss (but when it hits it is very good!) but I am subscribed to them so they come up in my library. I think it was just lucky that I found them on the weird app...

Check out blogtalkradio. It's a site where average people can start podcasts.

I am a science geek so I love nature podcasts and wnyc.

I also have radio 4 comedy and woman's hour.

And ceebies Grin

Omg! And naked scientists!

GinOnTwoWheels · 20/01/2014 06:50

As well Friday Night Comedy, Woman's Hour and the Infinite Monkey Cage already mentioned, I have the Food Programme, A week of You and Yours, Best of Today, Comedy of the Week, Money Box and More or Less from Radio 4. Sometimes File on 4 has an interesting investagative report.

I make a point of looking once per week at the weekend, and you can have the R4 section searched by last updated, so I seek what has been added in the last week. You can subscribe as well, but I haven't got round to doing that.

Worst part for me is that I have an iphone so have to mess about with itunes to get them on my phone - I generally listen to them in the car when I am out and about on my own.

mameulah · 20/01/2014 19:34

Thanks everyone, that is really helpful!

You can search different podcast categories within iTunes. The BBC has loads that you would probably like. I absolutely love them!

redexpat · 20/01/2014 20:14

iPM - the program that starts with its listeners is interesting. Also from radio4. Just beware that if you go for programs that usually have music then you probably wont get the music because of rights. So Graham Nortons podcast is sometimes only 40 minutes, even though he's on the radio for 3 hours.

JennySense · 20/01/2014 21:33

Try searching itunes for them? I have had some great BBC ones in the past - the one about the History of the World in Objects was fab!
