mouldy buggy

I need to get rid of an umbrella fold stroller as I have no need for so many buggies. It was given to us by our old nanny and used by her 2 afternoons a week. I advertised it on a local facebook selling site for £15. I'd looked up the brand/model in line and new they are about £120. A lady wanted to buy it and came to collect this morning. It had been in the garage for 2 months and when I got it out this morning to hand it over I noticed some mould spots on the hood and a couple on the seat. I scrubbed it but they were still visible.

I showed her when she arrived and said as a result I'd take £10 (she didn't say she wanted to pay less, I just felt bad). She seemed happy at the time but has now messaged me saying she's unhappy, the mould won't come off and she thinks the buggy is unusable.

Soft touch that I am, I've said she can drop it back and I'll refund her.

Perhaps I am slummy mummy extrodinaire but our third hand Phil and teds had mould stains all over it when we got it and it makes no odd whatsover to its functionality. I have no idea if the bugaboo or the zia I also own have mould spots as I've never really tried looking!! Am I slummy or is she a neurotic? (or does the truth lie within?0 I think she got a bargain at £10. I shall simply put it on freecycle or send to charity instead

Some people don't want mouldy prams even at a £10 bargain. I wouldn't even call it a bargain if it was mouldy though.

Bootycall · 19/01/2014 15:54

if I had showed her the product and dropped the price I wouldn't have refunded her to be honest op.

buyer beware.

CustardOmlet · 19/01/2014 16:11

You were honest and reasonable. A few mould stairs wouldn't bother me, especially for £15. Nothing a bit of bleach won't sort!

SaucyJack · 19/01/2014 16:15

I think YABU. Mould is more than cosmetic- it's very bad for delicate lungs isn't it?

Scholes34 · 19/01/2014 16:30

Of course it's usable. Too late now though to undo what you've already agreed. You've been very reasonable.

pianodoodle · 19/01/2014 16:31

If I'd seen the mould and was happy to take the reduced price then I wouldn't expect a refund.

I'm not sure I'd have given one under those circumstances - unless she was especially nice and apologetic for wasting time..

YANBU

Cuddlydragon · 19/01/2014 16:34

I'd refund tbh. Mould isn't just cosmetic, it isn't ideal for little lungs. I think you're doing the right thing.

whereisshe · 19/01/2014 16:40

It's hardly going to be an everyday pram with a child sitting in it for hours so I think she's being precious. In any case mould can be safely killed with rubbing alcohol (or cheap vodka) and tea tree / clove oil...

RoseRedder · 19/01/2014 16:42

Is it actual mould or a stain?

I'd take the buggy back and either try to clean it or bin it

A buggy with mould is not something people would want regardless of the make. It could be dangerous....would you put your baby in a mouldy cot?

Your not slummymummy though but it sounds like the buggy has had it's day and is fit for the bin

Lagoonablue · 19/01/2014 16:44

Can you take the cover off and wash in the machine? I did that with my Maclaren and it looked great.

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 19/01/2014 16:48

Clean it up and relist it.

IneedAsockamnesty · 19/01/2014 17:05

I wouldn't use any fabric baby item that had either mould or mould stains on they would be binned, but I would not expect a refund from a private seller who had pointed it out to me.

Oblomov · 19/01/2014 18:26

I got rid if mould on my buggy pre selling. Used watered down bleach then whole thing in washing machine. Fab.

SoonToBeSix · 19/01/2014 18:27

Yabu I wouldn't want my dc to sit in mold
