When

  1. I am not pregnant
  2. We have neither potatoes or black pepper in and
  3. We are having turkey curry for dinner.

I am really very sad about the lack of peppery mashed potato. :(

IABVU. First world problem I know.

You may not be pregnant in the usual sense of the word but you might have been inseminated by an alien - possibly one that looks like a potato or a pepper.

Go to your GP and get checked out.

wyldchyld · 17/01/2014 17:18

I will trade you homemade peppery mashed potato (with proper fresh ground pepper and homemade mash with cream!!!) for turkey curry.....

Mmmmmm...... turkey curry...... droooooooooool

Great idea. Just off to peel the spuds now.

SPsMrLoverManSHABBA · 17/01/2014 17:31

Cheesy garlic mash is better.

squoosh · 17/01/2014 17:32

I have recently discovered that the key to making really tender meatballs is to add some mash to the mix.

Other than that mash is my least favourite guise for the noble potato.

Brokenpurpleheart · 17/01/2014 17:33

When I was pregnant I craved mash with Apple sauce ....

Oblomov · 17/01/2014 17:35

I have just had my turkey curry and it was strangely satisfying!

Still, potatoes and black pepper are going onto the shopping list.

White pepper should be made illegal.

If you're craving it then you must have it... Your body is trying to tell you something - there is clearly some vitality nutritious and beneficial element in peppery mash that you NEED! Wink

allthingsfluffy · 17/01/2014 18:34

:o

My body loves carbs. Other than that, I am not sure how nutritionally valuable potatoes and black pepper are.

May I offer you a student standby, that we called Potato Wodge It?
Boil spuds.
Fry some onions until caramelised.
Grate some strong cheddar.
Mash spuds with butter and full cream milk. Stir in onions and cheese.
Wodge it on a plate.
Eat. Nom bloody nom.
(Delia? Nigella? Who they?)

AlwaysDancing1234 · 17/01/2014 18:56

Oh god I want curry and mashed potato now!! (I am pregnant though so have an excuse)

AlwaysDancing1234 · 17/01/2014 18:58

I also want some of your Potato Wodge it please FunLovinBunster!!

MsAspreyDiamonds · 17/01/2014 19:01

Mashed potatoes, add chopped onions, 1 -2 finely sliced green chillis, a large handful of chopped coriander & salt & pepper to taste. If you have mustard oil, add a small teaspoon & mix everything thoroughly.

Serve the Bengali way with rice & grilled fish or eat as it is.

FunLovinBunster · 17/01/2014 19:12

Or how about my fave Potato Vegetable, an Indian dish that's truly delish?
Don an apron.
You need waxy spuds. I parboil them for 10mins, my mum doesn't, so it's up to you.
In a deep frying pan or wok, heat 2tbspns sunflower oil. Tip in 1tbspn black mustard seeds. Cover as they will start to pop in the hot oil. When the popping stops, tip in 1 chopped onion. Fry 5mins. Tip in 1 tspn ground cumin, 1 tspn ground coriander, 1tspn turmeric and 1 tspn garam masala powder. Cook off 5mins. This is the secret of good curry. You need to cook spices properly otherwise will taste ugh. Add 1 tspn chilli powder or 1 green chopped and de seeded chilli. If you do this WASH YOUR HANDS IMMEDIATELY after chopping. Add spuds. Carefully stir without breaking the spuds up until hot and golden.
Eat with a warmed Chappati (sainsburys are v good) or a naan and some raita.
Potato Wodge It is Nom Bloody Nom.
Potato Vegetable is Nom Fucking Nom.

FunLovinBunster · 17/01/2014 19:12

If you have some fresh coriander, tear up the leaves and chuck in at the end of cooking. Enjoy!

oldgrandmama · 17/01/2014 19:16

Mmmm ... mash, with loads of butter, fresh ground black pepper, bit of salt or, cook the spuds in some lovely stock (I recommend Knorr), then mash up with finely chopped spring onion, or shallots, or any finely chopped bloody onions ... and milk and some cream if you have it. Grated cheese will be sublime too ... and yes, you can use ALL of these in your mash. Your arteries, blood pressure will be shot to hell, but never mind, enjoy

Bettercallsaul1 · 17/01/2014 19:21

Ah, wonderful comfort foods -just what you need these dreary January nights!

As well as a large glass of wine and a new boxed set! Heaven!
