To give a visiting child this for tea?

DD's little friend often comes to ours...her Mum works and can't always get childcare...she's single and cash strapped so I have offered to have her every week....it's no bother as DD and she are both good girls and both are quiet....anyway...I usually do something like roast chicken and veg, stir fry, sausages and mash...but today I've been too busy so it's re-heated pasty, salad and crisps Blush Would you be Hmm at this?

It's not a Greggs pasty at least.

As a Cornish person, worshipper of the noble pasty... what the hell are you doing serving it with salad and crisps?!

EirikurNoromaour · 16/01/2014 18:44

What's wrong with it?

Topseyt · 16/01/2014 18:51

Nothing wrong with it. I wish I had your tea now. I am doing hot dogs for mine, with beans.

Minnieisthedevilmouse · 16/01/2014 18:54

I would view it as a treat and not feel guilty or cross at you.

diddl · 16/01/2014 18:57

I find crisps as pert of a meal odd tbh.

I'd be OK with pasty & salad & some crisps later as a snack if they fancied.

That said, if you regularly fed my child, I wouldn't actually be saying anything other than "thank you".

BitOutOfPractice · 16/01/2014 18:58

Mine had shop-bought ready made mash today with their tea because it was in the clearance section and not at all because I'm a lazy arsed layabout

Peacesword · 16/01/2014 18:59

I'd love you for feeding her. It wouldn't matter to me what it was.

Jinsei · 16/01/2014 19:03

I would be eternally grateful for your kindness in having my dd and feeding her as well. Certainly wouldn't be judging the dinner you gave her! I'm sure the kids will enjoy it and it's only once in a while, so it won't do them any harm at all!

You sound lovely btw! :)

YANBU..... As long as it's a proper Cornish pasty

claraschu · 16/01/2014 19:12

Pasty and salad sounds like a very healthy meal (if it's a good pasty). I'm not sure why people would even think it's not great?

missorinoco · 16/01/2014 19:16

If you have my child in those circumstances as long as they come back in one piece I don't mind.

And as a tea, I think that's fine. Crisps with salad and a pasty. It is in moderation.
I want a crisp sandwich now though.

WoodBurnerBabe · 16/01/2014 19:20

If you did that amount of childcare for me, FOC, you could feed them what you like!

AwfulMaureen · 16/01/2014 20:43

Diddl really? Don't you ever get given a little side of crisps in a cafe when you have a sandwich? Here (up North) you always get that...you order something like a BLT and it comes with a bit of salad and a handful of crisps.

I should add that the DC were thrilled with their tea Grin more thrilled than my usual offerings which don't get any comment other than thank you usually...they said "OOOOH! PASTY!" so it must have been ok

I would be grateful to you whatever you fed her and if you gave my DD that for tea she would want to come and live with you.

Waggamamma · 16/01/2014 20:51

My friend is doing me a similar favour one afternoon a week that I can't get childcare. I am so eternally grateful for helping me out that I would not mind what she feeds DS (within reason). It's one meal and I bet he would enjoy pasty and crisps tea as a treat!

You're doing a great thing to help out your friend and I'm sure she'll just be glad her child is safe and looked after.

I have said to her 'her house her rules' and she shouldn't do anything differently that she usually would because my DS is there.

Totally fine. As you are doing your friend a huge favour I'm sure they won't mind.
