To think my bathroom is bugged?

ouryve · 16/01/2014 13:57

Twice this week, I've gone for a necessarily long sit on the loo, during the school day. Both times, the phone rang. Both times, I hurried along because I was anticipating a phone call with some news about something.

Both times, it was numbers I've already put in my phonebook of people trying to flog solar panels.

So, I just needed the bathroom again, this afternoon. I took the phone in with me, this time, as I was blown if I was going to be rushed.

Yes, the phone rang. Different number, this time. Checked it and it's another spam number.

Am I doomed never to have a shit without the phone ringing? I'm thinking that next time, I actually answer, and if there's someone on the other end, I treat them to all the sound effects appropriate to my situation.

I never answer my landline unless i know who it is - let the ansaphone get it.

Enjoy your, errr, sitdown!

ouryve · 16/01/2014 14:03

I usually ignore and the answerphone does kick in, unless the boys have been at it. DS1's been having a lot of problems with school, though, so it's hard not to be alarmed, when the phone rings!

I turned the sound off on my landline phone. DH checks the answer machine and turns the ringer on at weekends. Friends and family have my mobile number.

ouryve · 16/01/2014 14:09

We're already registered!

I'd mention it and tell them to sod off if there was ever anyone there when I picked up, but there never is, and it's the same numbers over and over, so I've taken to adding them to my phonebook so I can ignore them (and so DS1 doesn't become alarmed that we're ignoring them)

Pretend to go for a poo and see if it rings then.

ouryve · 16/01/2014 14:24

I do need to catch it out, somehow.

Take the phone in with you. If it's a sales call, take it while shitting. Make sure you're GOOD and noisy about what's going on. Running commentary, if you need to. Ask the salesdroid how much fibre it's getting in its diet, because "seriously, take a warning by me, it's like trying to pass a fuckin' brick, here."

ouryve · 16/01/2014 14:50

It's so tempting, kisses :o

Play a hardcore porn when you answer and they'll soon hang up

Andro · 16/01/2014 14:59

I feel your pain! DH and I are being harassed by 'number unknown' callers, if you answer it then it's usually a recorded message about some form of rubbish - very annoying when the calls are coming in upwards of 5 times per day.

(Toilet, shower and cooking seem to be their favourite times [mad] )

Andro · 16/01/2014 15:00

[mad] = Angry

EyesCrossedLegsAkimbo · 16/01/2014 15:13

We're registered with the TPS and still get three or four calls from 'unavailable' every bloody day Hmm I refuse to answer it after one call centre bloke screamed "fuck off" at DH.

Bastards.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 16/01/2014 15:14

My dh always phones when I go to the loo. He's got in the habit of ringing, leaving me for a bit and then ringing again now.

NymodigFruOla · 16/01/2014 15:29
  1. TPS
  2. Caller Display
  3. Answerphone

means you don't have to get off the loo/out of the bath etc

ouryve · 16/01/2014 16:26

We have all of that, NFO! We recently changed phone provider and as soon as we realised that caller display wasn't included, we added it to the new contract. I didn't like not having it one bit.

I work from home and the land line ringer is turned off as anyone who needs to talk to me will always use my mobile.

Every land line call I checked with 1471 before turning the ringer off used to be someone trying to flog something or other

dontcallmemam · 16/01/2014 18:11

Are sure it wasn't my mum? She does like to ring for a long chat too very regularly. Just say hello and carry on with your activities.. Grin

TheDoctorsNewKidneys · 16/01/2014 18:29

I just ignore the landline. DP gets annoyed by it ringing and anwers - god knows why, because the only person (as opposed to company) that has the number is his dad, and he always texts before he rings anyway!

FraidyCat · 16/01/2014 18:29

This is the answer.
