to get quite so cross about where dh leaves his shoes???

I know this is a first-world and minor problem. I know. But it drives me up the wall when dh leaves his bloody shoes on the mat in front of the door. So that you have to move them to open the door. Instead of putting them on the shoe rack that is 6 inches away!!!!

Today he has FOUR pairs of shoes in the hall, three of them actually IN the doorway to his office to he has to step over them every time he goes into or out of his office.

(And he had so much crap in his office that he's stacked things behind the door so the door doesn't open all the way, which also drives me mad). Gah. He's worse than the dc!!!

And his muddy trainers/hiking boots are ALWAYS in front of the back door. It truly drives me insane and I can feel my blood boil every time he does it. Every time. So, AIBU??

Yanbu! It's annoying me just reading that he does it Grin

CadleCrap · 16/01/2014 10:51

Years ago I started a similar thread about DH leaving his wet towel on the sofa. It ended up with MNers suggesting what to do with it - mainly turning it into a

Can you artistically arrange then in a pyramid?

Chocotrekkie · 16/01/2014 10:57

Put all of them apart from 1 pair in a bag and hide them. The other pair in the shoe rack. This works best when you know he'll want trainers and you've left his work boots in the rack.

When he asks where they are innocent answer " well surely they are in the shoe rack - where else could they be"

GhostsInSnow · 16/01/2014 11:00

Mine used to do it, drove me potty. I'd throw them as far back in the shoe cupboard as they could physically go. Only difference was my DH leaves his on the floor by the sofa in the living room Hmm

As it transpires, the new puppy solved the issue for me. He loves shoes, finds them quite tasty Grin

My issue (another first world problem I realise) is he takes the loo roll off the floor stand, puts it on the bathroom counter and leaves it there. Annoys me massively because we have black gloss counter tops and it leaves dust from the paper all over it. I can't stop him from doing it. I even tied the loo roll to the stand once as a joke and still he does it.

ZacharyQuack · 16/01/2014 11:01

Put all the left shoes in the shoe rack. Leave the right shoes where they are.

Joysmum · 16/01/2014 11:02

Mine leaves his at the top or the bottom of the stairs, or in front of the oven so count yourself lucky.

wigglesrock · 16/01/2014 11:08

I'm the shoe leaver in our house Smile , usually in the one place my husband will trip over them - well if he doesn't look where he's going, what does he expect Smile

CadleCrap · 16/01/2014 11:09

*Honey - can you find a loo roll holder to put on the counter?

BaronessBomburst · 16/01/2014 11:12

DH always leaves socks in the car. I often pick up or drop home work colleagues. It used to be embarrassing but has now turned into a running joke. People get into the car and look for socks. Grin

MinesAPintOfTea · 16/01/2014 11:12

I was going to say that there could be nothing more irritating than taking them off where everyone else does and putting them together neatly on the floor, 6 inches from the shoe rack such that I can't get out the door with a buggy. He thinks he's being neat and tidy but it would be better if they were dumped somewhere random.

...and breathe...

You seem to have the same problem though.

GhostsInSnow · 16/01/2014 11:15

*Cadle, it's a floor standing loo roll holder that he takes it off. The issue with putting it on the counter (and I should have thought of this before choosing black gloss tops) is that when you pull off a sheet of loo roll it leaves a fine dust coating on the counter which looks awful. I find myself wiping the sodding counter down twice a day over the weekends.

Maybe just hiding the loo roll is the solution to my problem and a Puppy is the solution to cocktails Grin

RoobyMyrtle · 16/01/2014 11:15

My dh used to leave them in front of the dishwasher ready for me to trip over. It was great fun pouring leftovers into them Wink Grin

CocktailQueen · 16/01/2014 11:16

I quite like the idea of putting them in a Shoe Pyramid. At the moment there are wellies, hiking boots and muddy trainers in the kitchen, as well as his old sandals that he puts on to check the pond or feed the birds. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Had to move them all to let Tesco delivery man in.

He knows it winds me up too, and STILL DOES IT. I hate when I can't open the door properly because his shoes are in the way. It's bad feng shui, apart from anything else.

Once I got so cross that I threw his shoe across the kitchen and broke the cat flap. That was a pain, having to buy and fit new cat flap. Now I try to throw them where I won't break anything.

Thanks Honey, but can you imagine how much extra work a puppy would create?! We have to tidy tonight for the cleaner coming tomorrow so will address the Shoe Issue then.

Crowler · 16/01/2014 11:17

My husband does this. It does my head in. He also is fond of taking his suit off in the kitchen and wandering off to take a shower, and just leaving it there.

Oh, and no, I do not know where your belt is. Or your cufflinks. Or your oyster card.

SpringHeeledJack · 16/01/2014 11:25

warn him, give him three goes, and if that fails put them on his pillow

[harsh but fair emoticon]

curiousuze · 16/01/2014 11:28

YANBU. DH seems to position his bloody ridiculous size 12s in the hall just exactly where everyone will trip over them, or get wedged in the pram wheels. I have had so many trainer-kicking tantrums...

curiousuze · 16/01/2014 11:29

Oh and Crowler, same here. We have a small shower room off the back of the kitchen where DH showers after running. He leaves his disgusting sweaty underpants on the kitchen worktop, every day. GRRRRRRAAAARGH.

Snatchoo · 16/01/2014 11:31

Throw them at him.

DH refused to believe it was his manky shoes making all the marks on our living room carpet until I had a screaming fit at him one day when he walked (dried) mud in. I mean, it's not much to take off your bovver boots is it?

He's better now but still can't quite manage the leap from floor in front of rack, to rack Hmm

CocktailQueen · 16/01/2014 11:31

Underpants on the kitchen worktop Shock?????

Suddenly, shoes everywhere doesn't seem THAT bad ;-)

OP posts:
Crowler · 16/01/2014 11:34

Oy. That does sound bad, curiousuze. Have you considered just divorcing him?

GhostsInSnow · 16/01/2014 11:40

Ok so the puppy thing is a bit drastic, but thinking about it in a training sort of way have you tried rubbing his nose in them? Grin

Fasterkillpussycat · 16/01/2014 11:49

My husband leaves his shoes everywhere too and it drives me mad. Occasionally I hide a shoe from each pair around the house. Usually works for a couple of days.

CocktailQueen · 16/01/2014 11:52

Ok, I have strategies now! Humour: Shoe Pyramid and hiding shoes. Excellent. That'll learn him! :)

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 16/01/2014 11:56

Get a black bin bag. Store out of sight. Chuck all shoes left on mat/floor into the bag. Maybe give it a good shake so pairs of shoes get separated. He will get fed up of digging through bag to find matching shoes.
