To be really hacked off with T Mobile !

Son and I were in town today. I went shopping while he had an appointment and we agred he would call my mobile when he got out of his appointment.

My mobile is old-fashioned T Mobile Pay-As-You-Go with lots of credit on it.

So I wander around town for an hour - no call made to my mobile.

I go to ring his mobile and notice my mobile screen says 'Unregistered SIM'.

I can't make or recieve calls.

Got home and rang T Mobile. They tell me my SIM has 'expired' and I need to buy a new one. No way I say. What about my existing PAYG credit?

They finally agree to send me a new SIM that will allow me to keep my number and credit - by Friday!

First operator hands me to the next operator who seems to imply that the SIM is not 'expired' but faulty - so will send a new one.

Have very little faith in T Mobile after this.

What if this had been an emergency and I was relying on this phone?

I suspect they do this deliberately to drive us PAYG users onto contracts. They also wanted to register my name, address etc and in the old days when I first got this phone it could be activated anonymously so they didn't have those details.

Hate 'em.

Think it is standard to cancel a sim if uit hasn't been used for a while.

Strange, never heard of a sim expiring.
They can get deactivated if a call hasn't been made on it after so many months/a year though.

Very strange.

I've had it 8 years without a problem until now.

I even sent a text yesterday.

Am cross Angry

Sim cards can just stop working. I've not had that happen but if the sim is faulty there's not much T-Mobile can do except send you another. The new one should work fine without the need to register it.

A SIM card has an electronic chip in it and like any component they can fail. Having said that it's very rare.
A much more likely cause is dirt on the gold contacts, particularly if it's been in and out of different phones.
Try cleaning it with a non-abrasive cleaner.

I have benen with t-mobile for 6 years and have always been happy with them. Until the last year. As soon as EE launched (somehow linked with t-mobile) they went down the pooper. We have 2 phone contracts and an iPad contract with them.

We will be going elsewhere when the contracts expire.

CajaDeLaMemoria · 15/01/2014 21:00

It's a legal requirement to collect the names and addresses of people with PAYG phones, I believe.

Allowing them to be used anonymously meant that they were used for all types of crime.

wetaugust · 15/01/2014 21:13

Yes, I guessed they have killed the SIM so I'd have to register with them - not that I'm bothered as I'm not doing anything dodgy Grin

Yes, it's all gone downhill since they became EE.

I have my broadband with EE. They've emailed me to say their phone prices are going up and therefore, if I want, I can be released from the contract.

Sooooo tempted.
