Parking - is there anything I can do?

Live on road with very little off-road parking, parking is always an issue (Esp when you have a weeks worth of shopping for a family of 8 Hmm).

Car has been parked outside my house for two weeks Angry Angry think it's my neighbours friends who have gone on holiday (although am going to check it's not stolen). I know legally I can't do anything but it's soooo annoying.

Do I leave a note on it?!

Suggestions?

My neighbours don't speak to me btw - I have no idea why.

There isn't really anything you can do. Although if it is a neighbours friends, their insurance may be null and void. Unless they told their insurance company it would be parked at another property.

Can you just knock and ask your neighbours? Say 'just concerned this car may have been stolen and dumped here. Do you know anything?'

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 15/01/2014 17:04

It's a public road. Unless the car has been stolen or dumped, there's nothing you can do except order your shopping online and get it delivered.

eurochick · 15/01/2014 17:06

I agree with HopALongOn. It's there perfectly legally (unless dumped). You'll just have to suck it up.

Stellaface · 15/01/2014 17:07

Is it blocking access to your property? You can report an abandoned vehicle to council or police depending on area, so if you're sure it's not being used when you're not there to see it, I'd do that. If anyone complains, how were you to know different? Strange car left untouched outside your house for two weeks... could be anything.

Iwillorderthefood · 15/01/2014 17:09

Stop in the middle if the road, put your hazards on and unload leave outside your house, then go park. If anyone starts to hassle you give them a Gallic shrug, and say I live here, find another route.

quetal · 15/01/2014 17:10

Please don't waste police time by claiming it to be abandoned out of spite as suggested above. It's on a public road, it's allowed to be there, it may be annoying but they are not doing anything they aren't allowed to do.

Iwillorderthefood · 15/01/2014 17:10

That's what I do in any case.

Ebayaholic · 15/01/2014 17:14

Put a big sign on it when no one can see you saying 'abandoned- to be towed' and your neighbours will really panic. I have seen cars which have been flagged as abandoned. Wink

Joysmum · 15/01/2014 18:13

We have a similar issue where a car is borderline being too close to the driveway so I can't swing into it in one maneuver. Unfortunately there's nothing I can do, it's been there since before Christmas and hasn't moved but it's taxed.

DustyBaubles · 15/01/2014 18:17

We live on a main road with no parking, everyone has to park on the side roads.

Because I don't drive, our car is only moved at weekends, and if my husband's away, not even every weekend. It's probably something like that. There is no need to report it to anyone Hmm

WaitMonkey · 15/01/2014 18:34

It's a pubic road, nothing you can do.

sassytheFIRST · 15/01/2014 18:40

Pubic roads are v troublesome.

Art.

sassytheFIRST · 15/01/2014 18:40

That was supposed to say arf!

HarderToKidnap · 15/01/2014 18:44

I used to live in a Victoria terrace with only on road parking. Once of the guys was some sort of self employed removal guy and used to park his HUGE truck outside my house. It was bigger than my windows and all I could see from the front of the house was an expanse of white truck. Blocked out all the light. It was like a dystopian nightmare. Especially when he went on holiday. Felt like I was living in an arctic wasteland in a snowstorm.

Nothing you can do though!

They have as much right to park in that space as you do if you both have car tax.

Yabu to even consider doing anything. If guaranteed parking close to your front door is vital you need to move to a property with private parking.

MardyBra · 15/01/2014 18:56

sassy I like the way you corrected the "arf" but left the "pubic"!
