Just logged on facebook( I know I know I should just remove myself/friend!)
There was a photo of a baby born at 19weeks, obviously not living, My 'friend' says she wants to draw attention to 'young girls' who think at 19 weeks it's just a clump of cells.
I have commented saying I think she's being extremely insensitive and shouldn't be posting those kinds of pictures online. She doesn't know who's been through what and I feel so sorry for anyone who has lost a baby at this stage or had no choice but to terminate, each to their own and all that.
I felt sick, am I over reacting?

Pathetic...and pointless. Very few people have abortions for non medical reasons at 19 weeks, and I'm sure that those who do are aware of the stage of pregnancy that they are in.

formerbabe · 15/01/2014 15:53

Technically, we are all just clumps of cells.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 15/01/2014 16:04

I saw it, I thought the wording was the usual anti abortion bulls shit but the pictures were quite amazing.

TheFabulousIdiot · 15/01/2014 16:56

"one friend had tagged another friend asking if she was still okay about abortions"

this would be like a red rag to a bull for me! Let me at them. None of my friends are the type to post that shit though.

I also got those pictures sent.

I don't agree with the anti-abortion propaganda along side it.

However, for anyone who hasn't seen them, the mother is holding the baby's hand and cradling him ? In another, very very tragic.

My friend had a baby pass away at three days old, she posted pics later on. She knew the baby would pass away as she was in labour, keeping us all updated (Prem and health problems.

The posting of the pics was up to the Mum, but the way others are using them seems very wrong.

Gileswithachainsaw · 15/01/2014 19:46

I think that's it in a nut shell birds

I wouldn't have a problem with the pictures. God knows loosing a baby must be incredibly tragic and no one had the right to tell someone how they should act if it happened. Whatever helped them cope ... And all that.

But taking the pictures ,using the pictures out of context as a stick to beat people over the head with is just wrong. And I doubt id talk to a friend who posted that up.

MaidOfStars · 15/01/2014 19:55

No one thinks that, at 19 weeks, a fetus is just a clump of cells. However, why on earth that fact should inform abortion policy is beyond me? Surely, the debate is far beyond what the fetus looks like?

vicki2010 · 15/01/2014 20:29

I'm sorry for causing any upset by not warning it may be a sensitive subject beforehand. Thankfully mumsnet have managed to change the title.
As for the post, I'm glad it's not just me who thinks the way it's been used is pretty distasteful and upsetting for many!

I saw this and read the accompany article. It was so sad that her baby didn't make it but when I scrolled down and got to the pro-life logo I kind of switched off a bit. I found it distasteful.

If something like this appeared in my FB page I would be disgusted
I had a TFMR at 21 weeks and would never dream of putting the photos of my baby on Facebook
Plus the fact if this girl was being pro life too , some people do not have a clue what others have been through ...

Only1scoop · 15/01/2014 20:49

I read post earlier prior to warning. After a recent silent MC at 17 weeks it just reminded me of another reason I don't wish to be on fb so I thank you.

shash1982 · 16/01/2014 17:42

I deleted someone from my fb for posting that article. It's just not something that I want forced upon me to see.
