To keep telling him I'm not his daddy?

My 18 month old insists on calling me daddy! I am the one with the boobs, but no matter how much I try to convince him otherwise I am still daddy.

He sometimes calls his actual male parent daddy too but usually it means me, especially when he is all upset and howling daddy daddy daddy!

So aibu to keep telling him, Son, I'm not your father.

My DS called me Daddy till about 18 months too. Don't worry too much.

WaffilyVersatile · 14/01/2014 22:23

would it just be easier to teach him that the other is called Mummy? Grin

littleblackno · 14/01/2014 22:23

Aw bless him. Nothing helpful to add, I guess a gentle reminder when he says it maybe?

Thebluedog · 14/01/2014 22:23

Haha Grin sorry no sympathy but YANBU to keep telling him..

To explain my hilarity, is that my 22 month old insists on calling me Nana! She did it in front of the checkout lady and she commented on how lovely my Granddaughter was ShockShockShock

BlackeyedShepherdswatchsheep · 14/01/2014 22:25

at least you have not been called grandad... by a child you teach.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 14/01/2014 22:26

I believe daddy is an easier sound for children to learn to say so daddy often comes before mummy.

cashmiriana · 14/01/2014 22:26

My DD1 called my father Dad for ages, different from Daddy, but she couldn't say Grandad. We just learned to live with it!

Skrifa · 14/01/2014 22:27

The dog was called Mummy Hmm by DS1! I was merely 'Muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu(x10000)m!'

CatAmongThePigeons · 14/01/2014 22:31

It could be worse, my son has a Darth Vader mask and delights in saying 'I am your Father' to me.

Grin

DS2 calls me and DH (his dad) by our first names, I do larf.

Rhubarbgarden · 14/01/2014 22:32

My 19mo has one word. 'Cock'. I'd rather he called me Daddy, quite frankly.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 14/01/2014 22:32

I am called "Mummy, no Daddy". This was especially confusing when I had a beard.

Eebahgum · 14/01/2014 22:36

Blackeyed - I have also been called grandad by a child I taught. I can deal with them calling me mum but not even the same gender worried me slightly!

NachoAddict · 14/01/2014 22:36

Haha oh I see it could be much worse!

These replies have cheered me right up.

I find myself going along with him. Foe example, I dare to get out of bed to use the toilet without permission, cue much daddy, daddy, daaaddddyyyy-ing followed by thud, pitter patter. My response is, just a second baby, daddy needs a wee wee.

Our 22 month old calls for 'mommydaddy' always, it's like he's taking his chances as to which one will answer. Everyone else gets called mommydaddy too, for example if he wants nana it's mommydaddynana!!

MsVestibule · 14/01/2014 22:43

Not really relevant, but my DD called me "m'ner" until she was about 2yo. She was looking through a magazine in a plane with DH when she saw a photo of Scarlet Johansen in a Dior advert. She pointed to it and said "Look, m'ner!"

Well, the resemblance is uncanny Grin.

avacat · 14/01/2014 22:46

My 20 month old calls both DH and me mummy. Doesn't make me feel special at all :)

Notfastmainlyfurious · 14/01/2014 22:53

The other day I got - tata. Mama, cow as I left. She very rarely calls me anything just comes running or yells loudly if she wants my attention which I must admit I prefer to cow. Daddy on the other hand has been called daddy for months now. Obviously she appreciates the hours of labour and stitches I went through Hmm

NachoAddict · 14/01/2014 22:55

Bugger off Avacat ww don't want ur sort with ur clever kids Grin Wink Dp was over the moon until he realised that daddy meant me. He's now, worried he is going to get mummy.

Loving how he covers all bases [any].

Quickly adds cow to the list of things I am glad I don't get called.

Grandad
Nana
Cock
Cow

I would take any comparison to Scarlet Johansan though. impressed with that one. never going to happen

Aw. My nephew used to call my Dad "Nanny" because my sister used to say "come on...let's go to Nanny's" as in Nanny's house...nephew thought that was her way of referring to the two Nannies who lived there! Grin

MsVestibule · 14/01/2014 23:21

TBF, I'm brunette and probably weigh about 3 stone more than my 'doppelgänger' so I'm fairly unlikely to ever be compared to her again.

Moving on 3 years, the same DD was watching a John Frieda advert, looked at the shiny haired woman and said wistfully "I wish she was my mummy" Sad.

welshnat · 15/01/2014 09:57

I get called tata Hmm

SomethingkindaOod · 15/01/2014 10:04

DD2 identifies men by the use of the word Daddy. Every man she meets gets "hewwo Daddy".
I die a little of shame every time we go out...

Duckegg80 · 15/01/2014 10:13

My 2.5 year old DS calls his Dad and I 'Maddy'. He can say mammy and daddy when he wants, but he likes to mash the two together as well so either or both of us will respond!

Fairylea · 15/01/2014 10:15

Ha! Ds is similar. He is 19 months and EVERYTHING is currently "buh byeeee daddy" (the only thing he can say). Nothing is just daddy. Everything is buh byeeee daddy.
