I just flicked over to Disney Junior and they were showing a Miss Manga mascara advert. Why do toddlers need to worry about making their eyes look wide "Manga Style" Angry
I should have stopped my DD watching when they started with the toy adverts Hmm

Aren't toddlers eyes the only eyes to be manga style wide anyway?! My DS has saucers for eyes and spider lashes to die for.

So no, YANBU.

I agree it's so wrong, but as a mother of a 20 year old, can I say try not to worry. I used to get so p***d off with crop tops, thong knickers, make up n nail varnish and sexual songs (I remember her at 4 singing 'I wanna have sex on the beach, come on everybody' even tho I often turned radio/tv off if something innapropriate came on! We must have done something right as she is a non make up wearing confident woman who hates thongs!! Just remember it is your job to explain to your girls (and boys) about advertising and how it sucks you in and that they don't need mascara!

Record the programmes so that you can play them without adverts, or don't watch commercial channels

Re: the Miss Manga Loreal mascara advert - I was shocked. That is the last time my kids watch Disney Junior live (and hopefully the last time they watch Disney Junior).

I was so annoyed that I contacted Disney Junior about it. Here's their reply:

"Please rest assured that all of the adverts that appear on Disney Junior are very carefully regulated and monitored to ensure that they are suitable for younger viewers, this particular advert is aimed at Mums/carers."

Because...

(1) Mums and carers are definitely watching the adverts on Disney Junior! (Yeah... right)

(2) The cartoon-like look that this mascara achieves is just what most parents are looking for.

(3) If they are showing adverts for mums and carers on Disney Junior, where will they draw the line? Will we start seeing adverts for hair dyes or hair removal products? Or worse? (You get the idea...)

I'm sorry, but I'm calling bluff on this. Poor choice, Disney Junior. I sighed when they started showing adverts for toys, but it seemed like a necessary evil. This is just irresponsible, shame on both Loreal and Disney Junior.
