And just let her run about on six inch claws until she is old enough to do it herself? The screaming....

DS either screams or ASKS me to do it!!! Sometimes they're so short I have to pretend!

For hair the TV used to work but it doesnt anymore. Last time what worked was showing him what was happening usin the video of the iphone (but not recording iyswim). He loved looking at himself!

DGson is going through the phase of copying everything, so when he wouldn't let me do his nails, I just sat there and clipped mine while he watched. Afterwards I offered to clip his, but we couldn't agree on who would hold the clippers. Turned out he wanted to hold the clippers and clip my nails - you should try this sometime, would give you more of a feel for where the dc are coming from. I count it a success if one nail (of his) has been clipped.

We do it when DS is asleep. Only way.

Spaulding · 17/01/2014 15:55

I always do DS' nails with baby scissors after a bath and he doesn't mind at all. He does have to be reminded not to fidget though otherwise mummy might accidently cut his toes off.

The nail fairy comes here at night. Much easier!

I've found a trick that works for 3yo DD1, who used to have to be bribed with chocolate, distracted by TV and practically physically restrained before having her toenails cut: a sock with the toe end cut off. It turned out she hated me holding her foot, it was too tickly, so this sock trick actually helps loads. Might not work for everyone of course, but worth a try?

Nancy66 · 17/01/2014 16:34

I've started to think 'fuck it, she'll get another set' when it comes to teeth brushing as well. Just not worth the monumental meltdowns

2tiredtocare · 17/01/2014 21:12

If the first set rots it can have a knock on effect on the adult teeth

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 19/01/2014 23:25

Nancy I sympathise, I have thought the exact thing many times when cajoling / threatening / bribing/ pleading with my DD to brush her teeth. Threatened withdrawal of immediate privledges (e.g. No sweet today / in stories at bedtime) work best.

I used to yet DDs nails at nap time until she hit a serous pick and sparkly phase and has her toe bail painted at nursery when they had a Hawiian beach party. She was so pleased with her pink toes that I bought some pink nail varnish and told her that she could have pink toe nails again if she let mummy cut them. Now she hops into the chairor a manicure on request. I felt a bit Blush about shopping for nail varnish for my three year old though.

I grab DS hand and bite them if he is ever still enough, toes he enjoys having them clipped and asks me to clean them :-/

It is now a three person job to cut DS3's toenails. I have to hold him wedged between my arm and my body, DD has to hold his arms (she's 15, not 5, don't worry!), and my Ex has to actually cut the toenails. Yet randomly he requests for his fingernails to be "snip snipped".

Confused
