To think my baby is never going to eat again?

My DD is 9 months and she recently had a horrible cold and was terribly wheezy. She seems to have recovered from that now and is cheerful but won't eat! It's been 2 weeks since she's had a proper meal and I'm beginning to wonder if she has a food aversion. She will eat those Organix carrot sticks and raisins but that's about it. I keep trying different finger foods but she doesn't seem bothered by much. It's stressing me out! I have an older DD who went off her food when poorly- but never for this long!

Just to add she was a good eater before this- was on 3 meals a day and wasn't overly fussy.

Has anyone else experienced similar and did your baby go back to food?

Thanks!

Yes my DS2 was like that

The thing was, I over compensated with milk feeds so I kind of created a catch 22 situation.

But if she seems happy enough, that's a great sign.

Kids in the West don't die of starvation (in the absence of horrible abuse etc)

Stay calm, all will be well. She'll eat when she's hungry

Joanna Blythman's book "The food our children eat" is excellent

Thanks

I was doing 4 milk feeds a day, but now she's having 6- 7. I always give her food first before I resort to bottle but she's so good at clamping her mouth shut!

I know I shouldn't get stressed about it, I'm finding hard to stay calm. I have 9 mo twins and a 2 yo DD (which I've found a bit of a struggle) but I finally felt like I was in control and now this!

Yep dd did exactly the same thing about a month ago. Got a chest infection and refused food for two weeks. It was a nightmare.
She got over it tho and now can eat more than her 4yo brother if you let her.
Worrying time but rest assured she will get back to it Grin

My son did this at about the same age, only he had a series of different infections with a lot of D and V so I was the one who decided that I would rather he dropped solids and stuck to breastmilk to maximise the nutritional value of what he did keep down (with our GP's blessing!). He wasn't keen on solids for a while during his recovery and it ended up that he literally ate nothing solid for about 4-6 weeks, until he was well over all the infections and then he suddenly just had a comeback and ate like a horse again.
If you're worried that she is losing weight, talk to your GP, but if she seems otherwise content then I would try not to worry and just keep offering her a range of foods until she's ready to have another crack at it. Good luck - I know how discouraging it can be, but she will eat again eventually!

Thank you. It's encouraging to hear that your DCs ate again!

Try smaller things more often? So, halve porridge. Say at 8. Then try every two hours but cut right back on size. So a grape is good. Or half a pouch. Or half a fork mash.

I'd move maybe a step back mushy like too in order to go forwards. Also try eating elsewhere but usual spot. So do a few more things on the move at a cafe or out. Try you eating. So coffee and share a fruit salad or biscuit. She had the milk foam.

Was she sick? Maybe she's associating a flavour? Mine vommed for England at that age and went right off mash. She still turns away now at 3. I just serve and ignore it being left. I daren't remove from her diet. But want her to know its normal so to speak too.

I had 5 days of ds doing this laat week, so not as long as your dc. However, he is back to eating me out of house and home Grin . It's awful though, you have to trust they just don't want it, but it goes against everything you feel you should be doing. .
