To think she was being precious and rude

Today I met a friend for a coffee. I had 16 week old dd with me. Whilst in the cafe, in a larger store I thought dd had pood. When she does yiu have to be fast as she is bf and it can go everywhere. The toilets were at the back of the shop so I walked there carrying dd and my bag.

On the way back I was walking through the cafe when something hit my leg and nearly tripped me up. When I looked down I saw it was a child of about 4/5 who had come from my left (which is why I didn't see her) and was heading back to her parents. We didn't bump particularly hard and the child didn't seem hurt.

The mother didn't look at me but immediately began saying (very dramatically) are you OK, are you alright to the child and then had her sit in her knee to hug her.

I genuinely didn't think I was at fault as I had been walking straight ahead and the child had come from the side. However, I like to make the peace and it was an accident so I smiled at the mother and said sorry. The mother just blanked me and continued fussing her child.

Aibu to think she should have also apologised and been a bit more light hearted about it? It was an accident, no one was hurt so there's no need to try and make anyone feel bad about it.

It really doesn't matter, don't give it another thought.

WhoNickedMyName · 11/01/2014 16:14

Yeah she was a bit rude, but I'm sure she left the coffee shop and hasn't given you another thought since then, so don't let it bother you.

Pagwatch · 11/01/2014 16:14

Possibly. But it wasn't a big deal really was it? She didn't fling pastries at your head?
I'd forget about it.

meanddog · 11/01/2014 16:15

She should have accepted your apology whatever, it's polite and ignoring you does not undo the accident.
She should also have been looking out for her boy

sazzle82 · 11/01/2014 16:19

I know it's not a big deal, I'm just a bit of a dweller on things. Ah well, I'm sure I'll get over it Wink

She was probably one of those annoying parents who think restaurants and coffee shops are crèches in which their kids can run about in. She should have been supervising her own child. What if it was a waiter with cups of hot coffee on a tray?!

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 11/01/2014 16:27

She was possibly over compensating with the concern for her son because she was embarrassed she'd let him run about in the cafe and knew she was in the wrong... Maybe... Hmm

getdownshep · 11/01/2014 16:30

I'm a 'dweller' as well.
I drive myself mad over thinking this kind of thing but as other people have said she has probably not given you a second though so don't waste your head space on herGrin
