To take DS with me when I give blood?

DS is 1, and I've not done it before so not too sure what the process is.
I can't find anyone free to watch him, so would it be inappropriate to take him along in the buggy?

I don't think it's the best idea, some people feel unwell/weak afterwards

LegoStillSavesMyLife · 10/01/2014 18:56

Nope I take my DCs.

MozzchopsThirty · 10/01/2014 18:57

Yes probably, you will be lying down for 20 minutes, so during that time you would need someone to watch him

Gileswithachainsaw · 10/01/2014 18:58

If you had done it before if say go ahead but as you don't know how you will react to it I think it's eat not to on this occasion.

Casmama · 10/01/2014 18:58

As long As he will stay in the buggy it'll be fine.

You will fill in some forms, get a thumbprick to test for anaemia I think the lie down while they take your blood- could take 15-20 mins for that bit.
Then a drink and a biscuit for maybe 15 mins to make sure ou are not faint.

I can't give blood anymore but think that is still the process. First time may take an hour so will DS stay in fo that long?

Suppose he starts screaming whilst you are giving blood op?

I felt a bit rubbish the very first time I donated, and fell asleep on a friend's sofa - I'd popped in on the way home and had a cup of tea, next thing I knew it was midnight and they'd thoughtfully rung my housemates and put a blanket over me before going to pub. (Student days!)

Afterwards I was always fine, and after I became a mother I used to take the twins with me.

specialsubject · 10/01/2014 19:34

he won't know what is going on, and it isn't a disturbing sight. But you won't be able to move for about 10 mins while donating.

OddFodd · 10/01/2014 19:45

I usually take DS but he's 6. It's a bit boring but not impossible. The only problem with a baby is that if he becomes upset when you're donating, you're helpless.

It really annoys me that all the sessions here start at 1.30 which pretty much means I have to cart him along with me.

YANBU I used to bring my dd, it was always fine. She just sat (or snoozed) in her buggy.
