I don't mind when we're out doing things, but just pottering around the house drives me mad with her sometimes. I just feel like I never get a break. We can't afford nursery so that's not an option and my DH and parents work full time.

We're restricted to where we go out as I don't drive and public transport links aren't great, only to the city centre where there's not much to do for a toddler.

I'd love to do more messy play and activities but the thought of clearing them up stops me. When she naps I tidy the house as I can't do it when she's awake as she will sob uncontrollably if my full attention isn't on her and try and spill/break stuff to get my attention.

I feel I'm in this never ending circle of housework, cooking and trying to think of exciting things to do with DD. Surely I'm not alone, am I?

Babc, life got considerably better when I realised other mums felt the same. I now split the day in two and always try to do something in the morning and the afternoon. I like being outdoors, so if weather is nice we go for walks with bike/scooter etc or to the botanics chasing squirrels, to the beach. Bad weather, trips to the museum and lots and lots of 'play dates'. Play dates are normally planned for early in the morning 9am or much later in the day 3pm. Consensus had these as the most boring/hard to fill times of day.

I like craft activities, so happily do crafts while dc make a mess Smile

I also bought a soft play membership for a soft play I liked. Going at the same time each week has meant I recognise other mums now and it's a lot more pleasant meeting people there.

Reading that back sounds quite smug. It's more a case that I go insane if I don't have other adult company Smile

i thought about this thread today as I literally exploded on my DH as he wanted a couple of hours on his. This weened day has just been another 'work day' for me. Tomorrow Im walking out and going somewhere - even if it is to have a nap in my car.
