To expect the DVLA to send my passport, divorce cert and new driving licence to a wrong address?

I sent my driving licence off to have my name and address changed over 6 weeks ago. After having received nothing back I gave them a ring. I was told that it would e investigated as I should have had it all back by now. This was last week.
Last night I received a letter stating that they have sent my documents to a wrong address and whilst they are accept liability they are really very sorry.
I was fuming! Anyway, I called them today and they said that they have sent a prepaid envelope out to the address that they sent my documents out to in the hope that the person that will send them back (they haven't already and they sent the docs out 4 weeks ago). I said that I am going away in two weeks and need my passport. They said that they would sort out a replacement.
I told them that I was fuming as The holiday is the least of my problems if my docs have gotten into the wrong hands.
I'm so upset, I'm a single mum to three children who works full time. This is the last thing I needed to be honest!
Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!
Any advice would be gratefully received as I have no one to talk to in RL at this time of night and my mind is racing (I have had fraudulent action on my bank account before and it was a nightmare to sort out)

I can understand your anger at this. Could you explain why your passport is involved in it though I don't think I have understood your post correctly as I didn't think you needed to send a passport for change of address.

They should have sent a courier to the house to get the stuff. Really annoying.

Musicaltheatremum · 09/01/2014 21:17

Ah, could it be for the change of name?

Rowood · 09/01/2014 21:19

Sorry, yes it was for name and address change.

Have they changed the rules? I Only needed to provide passport number when I changed my name not my actual passport.

Have you called the passport office for their advice?

Where are you travelling to?

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 09/01/2014 21:45

yabu, they should send it to the right address :)

OP I totally feel your pain here!!! Something pretty similar happened to me about 7 months ago, not with the DVLA & not with a passport but it still basically involved a government agency sending an important identity document (my daughters birth certificate) to the wrong address, with - I'm sorry to have to tell you - the end result being it is seemingly now lost forever.... & all they felt the need to say at the time was that they were "really sorry"!!!!! WTF use is that???? I was, as you understandably are now, absolutely fuming but felt that to pursue it - particularly as in my case I got my document eventually (or another copy of it, f* knows where the original is now, hopefully rotting at the back of some far flung mail office) - wouldve somehow just made me look vindictive, as if I wanted 'heads to roll' kind of thing.... but actually you know what? I did, I was just too wimpy & forgiving (& disorganised!) to follow it up..... So, sorry to not have any practical advice for you (& I did do a quick wee search on the subject for you but didnt come up with much) but I just really wanted to post to say, I'm sure it'll come through for you (as they're defo at fault here, and by their own admission, they're pretty much guarranteed to sort it) but however it turns out, on behalf of all us disorganised wusses out there MAKE THE FUCKERS PAY!!!!!! They cant keep going 'sorreeeeee' & pootling off to make another fuck up, dammit! Good luck!! :) (and soz for the rant...)

Try your local MP, Rowood. Some of them enjoy putting a rocket up the arse of bungling bureaucracies.

Good point! X
