Ok so I sat down and worked out how much my current rented property needs spending on it to make it liveable useable (sp) over a £1000 which I'm not willing to spend on a rented property when I could be kicked out whenever it pleases the landlord tbh .
Dp reckons AIBU to want to move as he seems to like it where we are Hmm
But I just want to move somewhere that doesn't have a 30yo kitchen and the 60ft Garden is not like a swamp and can be used by my Ds without him injuring himself .
I would have to save up a new bond etc as my Landlord decided to use mine without permission nob so that will be a pain in the arse.
Too many bad memories here as well so i thought New Year New Start kinda thing .

So AIBU to want to move house ?

its the law to get an annual gas check he can be prosecuted,

Cabrinha · 10/01/2014 00:29

I'm confused about the top ups... did you finally get his bank details?
He shouldn't have used your deposit as it should have been secured. But whilst he'd still have to give you back your deposit, doesn't that mean you'd then owe him again for all the missed too up payments?
No idea how that would work if he made it impossible for you to pay by not giving you a method.
Definitely get advice from Shelter.

Cabrinha · 10/01/2014 00:30

And definitely don't pay to improve the house! Only way I'd do that is if I agreed with the LL to have a month or whatever went free to do it with.

CrazyHneedsSleep · 10/01/2014 08:51

Yeah I got his bank details after about 14 months

Second what Custardo has said, an annual gas saftey check needs to be done on the boiler and other gas items annually its the law!

hugely dangerous if it goes wrong, its your safety it protects.

You need to demand one be done.

I feel bit of a dunce here, I do work for my LL as a resident but that's HA. Does 2010 not apply to private landlords? If this was one of my residents I'd be kicking off at the HA! (and they know it too Wink)

CrazyHneedsSleep · 11/01/2014 11:33

Sorry confuddled but your message isn't making much sense to me

Sorry, I was up ridiculously late last night.

I do work for my landlord, resident groups (which plays down the importance of what we do considering we replaced a govt body) but it's for a housing association. We have a standard which gets shortened to 2010 (because for the last ten years or so that's been the deadline Hmm) which means that everything has to be up to the standards set ten years ago by the govt. The group I work for has given the HA a good kicking the last couple of months because we saw the shocking state they were putting some voids (empty houses) out to new residents.

What I was asking was whether 2010 applies to the private sector because if it does you would have a lot of room for complaint. I'm hoping someone who knows about it will know the answer to that.

CrazyHneedsSleep · 11/01/2014 17:13

Im not sure but I moved in here in 2010

confuddledDOTcom · 12/01/2014 13:51

The year doesn't mean much anymore, not sure that the deadline has been reached yet as they keep moving it [sigh]

I've just looked it up and it is RSL housing so doesn't apply to private. This is part of why I will always live in RSL housing.

CrazyHneedsSleep · 12/01/2014 22:03

What's RSL housing ?,

We have local council housing here but I'm bottom of the list as I have a house , Unless my landlord decides to evict me .

confuddledDOTcom · 13/01/2014 11:19

registered social landlord. council abs housing association.

you should be able to get more points if your house is in a bad condition. are you allowed to apply direct to a HA or does it go through council?

CrazyHneedsSleep · 13/01/2014 21:40

Im on the council waiting list (Band F) and for the Local HA their are very limited houses in not very nice areas so id rather get council as their are a few decent areas for them
