To think Horrid Henry

Isn't really horrid at all and his parents blatantly favour his brother. It may be my sleep deprived state but I think I may have lost my mind to start this at a topic.

I agree. It's no wonder he's so naughty.

Lilacroses · 09/01/2014 11:57

Definitely...my Dd was obsessed with him a few years ago and I used to think this all the time!

Fakebook · 09/01/2014 12:04

Yanbu. Peter is also a smug little dipshit.

TooOldForGlitter · 09/01/2014 12:07

Agreed. Peter is a smarmy little wazzock and the parents are vile to Henry.

CalmaLlamaDown · 09/01/2014 12:07

Moody Margaret is the one I worry about the most, truly dreadful character

chillykitty · 09/01/2014 12:12

My dds watch this
Agree moody Margaret needs to be happy
Peter does everything right
Poor Henry is blamed for everything as peter can't do no wrong

Cookethenook · 09/01/2014 12:19

I totally love Henry. He's cheeky, but thoughtful, fun and clever too. His parents are bloody awful!

steppemum · 09/01/2014 12:22

the author has said that she deliberately made Peter too nice so that he isn't very likeable.

In the books Peter is more of a drip and Horrid Henry worse I think.

NightOfTheCactus · 09/01/2014 12:31

This is something DD and I chat about sometimes (she adores the books) - that Horrid Henry isn't totally horrid and Perfect Peter isn't totally perfect because people are a mixture of good and bad.

There is one of the stories where Henry decides to try and be perfect for the day and his parents find it really hard to get their heads around and they're automatically negative about anything nice he does. In the meantime perfect Peter gets really narky about potentially losing his perfect status and does his best to sabotage his brother's efforts.

I'm an oldest child in my family, and though it wasn't so extreme, I relate a lot to Horrid Henry as I had a "perfect" younger brother too. I think Francesca Simon captures that dynamic really well, though exaggerates it for comic effect.

MummyPig24 · 09/01/2014 12:41

Horrid Henry's parents are the horrid ones. It's no wonder he behaves the way he does. I know it's not real but I find it a little bit upsetting!

caitlinsurrey · 09/01/2014 13:40

I am sad because I enjoy watching it everyday, but it does remind me to treat my boys the same and not to be negative towards them. It also reminds me of the way my own parents treated me and my sister differently and I think part of the reason why I like it so much is as a child I felt like Henry.

Yes, it's a mixture of "give a dog a bad name" and "might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb". He behaves badly but they never give him a chance to be good.

Even in the story where he is perfectly well behaved as an experiment, they pick at him and send him to his room.

Sad
