to try a slendertone??

(no-one on weight loss forum is answering me) Sad

I used to go to the gym and keep quite toned, but age, having children and time pressures now mean that the only exercise I get is dogwalking. All fine and good and I am not overweight.

But I'd really like my stomach to be more toned, which obviously I'm not going to get through walking.

The slendertone ads are so seductive ... has anyone had any success with one?

Purely for stomach muscles. I know I could do situps but ... Blush there isn't actually much floor space in our house for lying down on!

has anyone used clomid ??

wispa31 · 08/01/2014 21:36

Seriously dont waste your money. Abdominal exercises done properly and some form of conditioning work will get you a lovely 'toned' flat tum. As for not enuf floor space, how fuckin tall r u? :)
I say conditioning work as you could sit ups til the cows come home but as long as there is too much fat on your tummy you wont really see much of a difference.

maddy68 · 08/01/2014 21:40

I used to have one. Gave it away. Don't waste yor money

januarysunsetfire · 08/01/2014 21:41

They do work; my mum had one and I just ordered one :)

But they hurt!

maddy68 · 08/01/2014 21:41

Planking is good too I would do a mixture of planking and sit ups/curls

gamerchick · 08/01/2014 21:43

Situps on their own aren't much good for stomach muscles anyway. It's a common misconception a lot of people have.

Slendertone does make a difference. However you'll have to keep using it for as long as you want that difference but it probably won't give you awesome results without putting the work in.

StupidMistakes · 08/01/2014 21:44

OP I want one!!! I soo want to lose my belly but nothing seems to work, mainly cos I cba to do exercises, I used to do yoga daily but that didn't help

gamerchick · 08/01/2014 21:44

Planking is bloody hard. Such a simple thing to do when you look at it Grin

MsAspreyDiamonds · 08/01/2014 21:48

Due to health condition I can't do sit ups so can I use slendertone?

januarysunsetfire · 08/01/2014 21:50

What is the health condition Asprey?

Slendertones effectively don't require movement, which is why I love them!

maddening · 08/01/2014 21:59

I got one as I can't do sit ups due to separated tummy muscles post birth and 2 hernia repairs - I think it is helping - but I am not excepting a model stomach I just want to stimulate the muscle without stressing it.

have seen some reviews which say they get better results by exercising whilst using it - such as going for a power walk - I do Wii fit while using it . Am also thinking of trying those toning plate places - and I walk 2-3 miles in 35 mins at lunch time each day - hopefully it is helping.

Cityofgold · 08/01/2014 22:02

Slender tone can only work as part of a larger overall fitness/diet programme. The electric pulses emitted by the device signal the muscles to work for a very short period of time, this does not create the 'fatigue' needed to build new muscle, or the work effort required to burn significant calories.
There is, unfortunately, no easy shortcut. The secret to a toned tummy is not sit-ups. It is dog walking, or other low impact CV activity and a healthy diet that keep excess weight off. Alternately you could try the new rage a go for tabata - high stress short term exercise (Google it)
You can not specifically remove fat from any one area of the body by exercising only that area. All you can do is build muscle under the fat that is already there. If you are already fit and healthy, just carrying a little bit of extra weight - focus on going for longer dog walks and maybe a bit of planking for core strength to make sure that when the weight falls off you have good shape; and check your diet out.

Sorry not to be able to give you good news about a 'miracle' result from slender tone. I guaruntee all the models advertising the device do sit-ups and planks much more than they use the slender tone!
Good luck.

MsAspreyDiamonds · 08/01/2014 22:31

Januarysunsetfire I have been suffering from palpitations so excercises such as sit ups bring it on. It takes anything from 10 mins to 1 hr to settle back to normal. It comes on really suddenly so I try to avoid anything that increases my heart rate unnecessarily.

januarysunsetfire · 08/01/2014 22:38

You should be fine with the slendertne Asprey :)

To be honest you probably could get FASTER results with exercise but the slendertone does tone. The other thing about it is that if you use it before a night out or something it does just give you a little nudge in the right direction, which probably isn't permanent but so helpful if you have a dress that's a bit clingy or something.

MsVestibule · 08/01/2014 22:46

I'd recommend one. I've used one before and probably lost about an inch from my waist. However, you do actually have to use it most days.

I bought another one a couple of years ago, and unfortunately, it sitting in its box in the cupboard hasn't had the desired result.

CleverClod · 09/01/2014 00:00

I bought one years ago and thought it useless, and yes I did use it for long enough for any effects to take place, but months later there were none, just a hole in my pocket where my money used to be :(

kitnkaboodle · 09/01/2014 17:30

oh boy, mixed messages

cityofgold et al: I wouldn't even say that I was carrying excess weight around my stomach or that it was particularly 'fatty'. It just flabby and untoned. If I deliberately pull it in, it looks OK, which makes me think that I just need to work the muscles there to tone them up and tighten them. It isn't that there's a load of fat sitting on top of the muscles. I'm size 10 top, size 12 bottom.

OK, there IS room in my house to lie on the floor... and I work at home ... it's just that who can really be arsed to get down and do the proper number of exercises at home without packing in and having a cup of tea instead ...

So how do the slendertones work then, and why is the effect only temporary/needs regular upkeep?? I imagined that they just cause your muscles to exercise passively, thereby building up strength. How do they hurt???

bebbeau · 09/01/2014 17:40

i had success with one

deffo strengthened my tummy muscles a bit

i ws 22, a size 6 and had had no kids though :o

bebbeau · 09/01/2014 17:44

oh and it HURTS as well

like weird electric shocks Confused

Chopstheduck · 09/01/2014 17:49

i tried one once. They tense the muscles through pulses, kinda like contractions in your stomach, so it does hurt in a similar way to a sort of burning cramp but very briefly with each contraction.

I'd say planking would be the best way to tone all of the core with a single exercise. Google the plank challenge.

Crunches only target certain muscles, but you could do reverse crunches, bicycle leg crunches etc. TBH if you really want a toned stomach, you really need to target all the muscles in isolated exercises done regularly. Dog walking is certainly not going to cut it! I've been running for a year, but I started gym classes three months ago and realized my core strength was shockingly bad and I have a long way to go for a toned stomach.
