AIBU about changing bags?

I have now had 4 people ask me which changing bag I will be having. AIBU to think these Yummy Mummy bags which EVERYONE seems to have around here are really a bit twee and not actually necessary or AIBU (and a bit naïve)?

www.amazon.co.uk/Pink-Lining-Yummy-Purple-Dragonflies/dp/B00E7I4OYO/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1389198222&sr=8-11&keywords=yummy+mummy+changing+bag

I have now taken to looking at people blankly and replying that I just intend to buy coats with massive pockets and bypass a bag altogether..

Its not that I am a snob by the way - possibly the opposite. What else will people tell me to buy for the baby which I just wont need?! There just seems to be so much STUFF~!!!

Confused

I don't get changing bags either, I think they're just another item in a long line of slick marketing aimed at new mothers. They're not necessary.

Realistically, you do need loads of stuff! Agree on the point about twee yummy mummy bags (I hate them) but when you've got a pile of vommity clothes and a million bibs, dirty nappies (as there aren't always nappy bins in every establishment) and clothes that nappies have leaked on (and that's not mentioning the pee soaked clothes that didn't escape the fountain when you started to change him/her in a tiny changing room) you'll be thankful for that changing bag with the waterproof section.

Also, if you formula feed the bottle warmer/cooler section comes in handy. As it also does for keeping cows milk cool for a toddler. I agree you don't need to spend a fortune (I use the free Boots one) but I couldn't be without one.

YANBU about feeling a posh bag is not needed

your being naive thinking pockets will do it.

I had a £10 rucksack for the first 2 years.

free boots one here (the same one for both kids), but past the first few months I just used a messenger bag.

Oh yes, I forgot about taking dirty nappies home! Op, pretty much every church hall based baby and toddler group/class (so most of them!) round here don't have nappy bins and you are expected to take your dirty nappies home to dispose of.

You will need a bag of some sort. It doesn't have to a pastel coloured one, it could be 2 (small one on you, another in the car), but something to cart all the gubbins around in that's always ready to go would be handy.

This time I just have a large handbag with the basics in. My changing bag remains in the boot of the car just in case. Just get a normal bag.
